Can find them online for absurdly high prices. 36 bucks a dozen in some cases. The outlets still listing them at 2 bucks a dozen are not taking back orders even.

this deadly virus hoax is getting old

The lid situation could be a problem. Probably those that are price gouging now are part of the problem because they bought them all up in the spring. How many of you re-use your old lids?

I have known some that re-use them in a pinch. Probably the home extension types would freak out at the thought, but if given a choice between not canning and using old lids, I would re-use some. If they didn't seal you could always give them another try with a different lid.

I’ve reused plenty if they are in good shape. In my experience as long as they seal they are fine. And probably 99 percent seal.

Always get a little scarce during canning season. Don't see the lids for sale but plenty of lids and rings for 2.50 dozen

Lids are more scarce than hens teeth around here. Quart jars are impossible to find. Lots of people trying to can this year.

If you have Amish stores around that is probably the place to look
I buy them by the gross. $40
And they always have them, just bought a sleeve of each last week.

I have been canning stuff for a very long time. Lots and lots and lots of jars. But need to buy flats. I never even thought about saving them as jars are opened but that has changed. Maybe as garden season winds down they will be available again. I was unaware jars were getting scarce.

Anything to do with canning is hard to find here. I did manage to get enough to get us through till next year. Partly due to being cousins with the owner of the one store (and actually shopping there) and my brother had some quart jars that he did not need.

I always have bought the next year's needs when doing the canning for the year I am in. I am glad I did. I found a place that had them for $2.99 a dozen and bought another half dozen. I have never reused the seal type lids and I don't plan to start now. Many of mine come off hard enough that they a bent somewhat. Looks like the season will come a bit earlier this year.

i keep them on hand also bbiwi. just thought i would replace what we have used so far only to find they are scarce at the moment. got jars in the canner right now. wife said walmart was out a few days ago so we were going to oder a couple gross on amazon. prices are ridiculous. you can find them just cost is outrageous. kinda like many types of ammo

I was lucky enough to have stocked up when Y2K was a thing. I bought several cases of both regular and widemouth lids. Still have gobs of them left.

I have often wondered if a fellow could use a very thin layer of silicone rubber (caulk) to coat the used lids so you could use them again. It is able to withstand the high temperatures of the canner, plus it is cheap....$4-$6 a tube full, that would be enough to do a zillion lids. Anyone ever do that?

They can be re-used at least once if the seal ring whatever that stuff is, is in good shape. Learned long ago to open the jars with the back of a butter knife, gently. It won’ Distort the metal like a can/bottle opener will. Even though you don’t have to warm soak your lids anymore, you should with re-used lids. It softens and seems to help bring that seal stuff back into good shape or condition again. We also leave them on the counter a couple days and pick them up by the lids to put them back in the box to check the seal. Do all your normal, listen and smell checks like always and you'll be good to go.

Right now they’re on sale here, 2.99 - 3.99 a pack depending on the store. We picked up several. Also when you buy new jars pick up 5 packs, then you have 6 runs through the canner with each case.
