I had to laugh as I read the Editor's Call in the June/July edition of The Trapper and Predator Caller magazine. Jim wrote this about the FTA convention in Virginia.

"The Fur Takers of America's big bash in Virginia last month was, from all accounts, a crackerjack, well attended by the trapping community and well represented by talented seminar presenters and venders. I'm told the FTA's new dual demo schedule, with simultaneous seminars on separate demo areas, was especially well received."

Maybe Jim could give rides on his new time machine - lol.

Maybe it is wishful thinking. Trying to promote the event so more people attend to take part in the fun. smile

Tempus fugit. In order to print and mail a June/July issue of magazine to reach readers in May, what month and year does the article have to be written?

I haven't been on Tman much lately so I'm just now seeing this old post, but I thought I might as well rattle the chains a little. The mistake referred to above happened because I was turkey hunting all over the country in late April and early May when the copy deadline hit for the June-July issue. Editor Chris Berens asked me to write my editorial to sound like the FTA convention had already occurred, since I was going to be out of pocket and unable to write it nearer the deadline. I wasn't comfortable with it and said so, but he's my boss and I did what he asked.

Chris subsequently got the two editorials mixed up and ran the one mentioning the FTA, which was supposed to run in August, an issue ahead of time. Egg on both our faces, and you can believe I gave him a ration of grief because of it.

That mistake aside, I hope subscribers have noticed a pronounced improvement in the magazine lately. The new owners are making some welcome and long-needed changes. Those of you who have dropped your subscriptions are missing out on some good stuff. Nothing against Trapper's Post, I hope Mike has a great run with it (and yes, Jill and I are subscribers to it.) But Trapper - we went back to the old name from the Chuck Spearman days - is a good one, too.

So Paul, Lee, wissmiss, trapper les, redsnow, concrete man, flash, dmac, thank you all for seeing the humor in that snafu and not making a big deal of it. I thought it was funny, too, once I got over being mad about it.

On the other hand, here's what I have to say to the two sourpusses who also participated in this thread (TurkeyWrangler and the Blak Spot): Kiss my a**. I'll put my knowledge, talent and abilities, both as a trapper and as a writer, up against yours any day of the week.

Hey Jim,

The recent changes in the Trapper magazine have been noticed, and very much appreciated....I have every issue back to 1975 when it was the Midwest Trapper, and have seen the magazine evolve.

The new owners have the right recipe to carry on the legacy to a new generation.....Long live the Trapper magazine!

I have subscribed for years. There have been times when it was not so good but there was always something to make it worthwhile. I feel that it has been getting better lately and will continue to subscribe.l

I also like the magazine and am a subscriber. Look forward to getting a new issue. I read all my trapping mags cover to cover. Also thought the time machine comment was funny

It's great to see the magazine return to it's roots. I've been enjoying the new Trapper magazine, and your article "Different Perspective" was a pleasure to read. The quality of the magazine has improved drastically and I'm glad to see it. I hope more folks will take the magazine back, because we can't have too many good trapping magazine of such quality.

The Trapper is a great magazine. Thank you to those of you working hard to bring it back to its roots.

Been awhile since I have subscribed. Would give it a try but don't have any current subscription information or deals being offered. Can somebody please share that information.

Thanks,

Chris
