I do hope that the Trapper comes back. Tom Krause was the best editor and the best thing that happened to trapping as it evolved in print from the EJ Daily, Oscar Cronk etc... days, which most kids in the West had no idea of, and their methods did not work that well in different country.
I will say something though which is a sore spot for me personally on the Trapper. When Mr. Krause left, I was told i was in the running for editor as I applied. I laid out my entire vision for that magazine, including updates on what would make the magazine flow better. In return, someone else got hired, and all of the updates were implemented and I never got even a thank you. They also were to publish one of my articles, but never paid me.
So I was most pleased when the Trapper failed over the years as they treated me in the same crooked way the world operates at.

I like it, always have liked it.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Thanks, folks, for the kind words. TPC did in fact go through some rough times after it was bought by that F+W group, who were basically a consortium of white shirts who had no more understanding of trapping, trappers and what it takes to make a good trapping magazine than I do of string theory. I almost quit them more than once, but just like you can't win it if you ain't in it, you can't change it if you cut and run. I decided to be the guy in the tent whizzing out than the guy outside the tent whizzing in. I'm glad I stuck it out. The current owners get it.

Jim,
Do you know when the magazine is going back to the larger size like it has been in the past? (Trappers Post size)

Duke, I don't think that will ever happen, for a couple of good reasons. First, the postage rate is more expensive for that size publication, and also magazine distributors don't want to handle those sizes because they don't fit well on magazine racks.

I agree F&W was out of touch. I decided to stop advertising with them the year the November issue had green leaves and a picture of a Hog with a Hog hunting headline. I remember thinking, “ these guys don’t get it anymore”.
The new ad rep has been calling and explaining the changes. I was happy to hear 1, that they realized there was a problem and 2, they are making big changes to fix it. I will be advertising with them again in the near future, especially now that I know they have newest and latest equipment available, like a time machine. lol

Did you use a Delorean to go through time warps in? Did it turn your hair gray? Soooooooooooo many question's but don't want to waste
any of your valuable time, imagine your busy writing your reports for 2022 about now, lol.

I hated to drop that magazine as id been getting it since the late 70's but it got past the point of being able to read, i'll renew a sub and check
it out, if nothing else i can see what kind of malarky your scribbling down, lmao.

Never read a trapping magazine...just ordered a 2 year subscription. If I can gain just one ounce of knowledge it’ll be worth it...if not, it’s only money and I’ll make more tomorrow.

That's a tall order for them to fill for someone from SW Ga, lol.

Ordered mine as well, even has a money back guarantee! Wow!

Spencer you might want to ask for a raise since your little time warp deal here has probably sold more
subscription's than your ugly arse standing on a corner could of done in 10 years, lol.

There are a few of us left that wrote articles for the very first editions of the Trapper. It was called the Midwest Trapper owned by Chuck Spearman (Spearman Publishing of Sutton Nebraska). I believe Tom Krause and Don Shumaker were the first editors after it grew to be a big magazine and Terry Scheideman had a hand in there also. Bob Church (from Fremont) was the traveling promoter as he went about his regular job. Several years back I corralled Jim Spencer at a National and lobbied him to do an article or two in the Trapper and Predator Caller about the original writers from the 1970's (who were just trappers not pro writers) as they were getting on in years. I assume Jim looked into it and assume it was not deemed "newsprint" by his bosses. In Escabana Mich at the Nationals I lobbied Bob Noonan (of Trapper's Post) to do an article on some of those guys. Then in Springfield MO last year at the Nationals Bob sent me over to to talk to Mike Wilhite the current editor. Mike thought that might be worth a story so last winter Ralph Sherder contacted me for some names and I was able to steer him to Joe Jack of Wood River NE, now in his 80's for an interview and story that was published in Trapper's Post earlier this year. Taking a trip back brings up a lot of memories before the "Instant Tube Age" and I often wonder how many of the current "new" participants (experts) would be involved if their major source of trapping knowledge was contacting these fellows....................my take.................... the mike
