For the 100 million setting at home watching TV for the game most of the viewers were probably doing something else during the anthem anyway, so eliminating a controversy probably is not bad PR for the NFL.
I have been watching less and less football over the last decades. Americans seem to like to spend 3-3.5 hours watching roughly 16 minutes of actual action for an hour game that lets the clock run so you can use up time.

There is an analogy some place like.....If a gear farts in the woods and no one hears it, did it happen...... well something like that anyway. So if no one watches the NFL.... will they still play the anthem or play at all..... we will never know.

The article states the anthem will still be played via recording but it won't be sung live by a performer.

The is preferrable to playing two anthems. The network can play it to the TV audience if they wish.

So one singer can infect the whole stadium! Dumbest thing ever. But I admit I don't watch it anyways.

They rarely broadcast the anthem anyway, it was mostly for the fans, which there won't be this year anyway most likely.
