My two oldest boys A and B (aka “The Twins”) left for their first year of college this morning. I can honestly say they are two of the most polite, meek, generous, and hardworking young men I have had the pleasure of knowing. I wish you guys and gals could meet them someday. A, is accepted into a special program that fast tracks him into law school. B, is on his way to getting his associates degree in Ag business. Mom was sad to see them go ( by the way that’s a bit of understatement). I was excited for them but will miss them greatly. As they drove off A (the lawyer) was leading in his slick car, and B (the farmer) was trailing in his 1995 Ford F-150. Funny to me as I watched real life before it really begins. Kinda a sweet moment. Both paid for their own vehicles and both will be paying their way through college. Mom deserves all the credit! Before they left I saw that their grandmothers had set them up with some jams, jellies, and honey. Dang 19 years go fast. Couple of pics from years ago that I’ll probably get in trouble for but what the heck. Remember the wife thinks 98% of you are just plain nuts. lol
The sweet lady I been seeing is driving her 18 yr old daughter up to north Texas tomorrow and she has no idea how much she will struggle next week. I would hold her hand but I will be in Iowa by then.
I used to here a song in the back of my mind as I'd watch my son Clayton Thomas head down the drive. Didnt matter if he was headed for HS, a team ropin, a pitchin, college, or the HS national finals.

Pawnee sounds like you have something to be proud of with those two. Congratulations on succeeding as a parent, sounds like you have done a great job with them.
Its stories like this that make me think there might be hope for our country. There are still good folks out there raising good kids that will guide the future.
My baby boy just got here last night....with his family. Came home for a few days. Always soo glad to see them, he is almost fifty, got a big figure job at Dell computers and driving a brand new truck. Very proud of him, but never see him! Any of you remember the old Cat Stephens song, "Cat in the Cradle", that fits the two of us to a "T"!
Pawnee, you worked hard to get them to where they are today. In the coming months and years, be prepared for barrage of crap that the colleges tend to send home with them! The indroctination of our kids isn't gonna stop, it is up to us (they're parents) to be ever watchful! Is "A" going to KU and "B" going to K State?

Lee, he will graduate from Washburn once he gets some pre law classes out of the way at a smaller college. Supposed to be done a year and a half earlier then average. Pays to have brains!! We have spent many hours on the subject of indoctrination. He’s confident that he will withstand it. I put a letter in each of their vehicles before they left. I told them both for the thousandth time that they would be seeing and hearing things that they had never imagined and my thoughts once again on how to stay on track. I’ve done best I can it’s up to them now
WOW! I wish you two the best because this maybe harder on both you, then A & B. It does bring back my own memories when they leave for the first time. It was a scary and very sad time for me also.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime
Good for you, and Topeka, while kinda a crap hole, ain't near as bad as Lawrence. I cring having the Furtaker convention there again! Your family is proud that they had a father and mother that cares, something that is almost forgotten this day and age! See ya at Yates Center!

I can relate. I refer to my daughters as Girl 1, Girl 2 and Girl 3 by order of birth.
After taking a gap year Girl 1 decided to major in International Relations. And what better way than to study internationally? That was her logic not mine.
There were no dry eyes between my wife and I on the return trip from the airport after Girl 1 departed for England.
It got a little easier with Girls 2 and 3. But not by much.
Congratulations Pawnee on raising a couple of fine young men that any parent would be proud of.
