The 550 is a vast improvement over the older 1.75CS.

If think you will see the vast majority say the 550 would be better. I have never heard anyone argue the Vic 1.75 was the best, but an awful lot say the 550 is.

IMO the Vic 1.75 was a big disappointment. You would be better served with their #3 CS if you wanted to go with Victor.

I would think the 550.
But you could get some bridger 1.75, they are only 97.95 a dozen, and seem like a solid piece of steel.

Depends how much money you have to spend. I have only my 550s right now. Have tried a couple other traps because price was better but always have went back to the 550. I am going to look at the Duke 550 when I go to Barnes Fur customer appreciation days. Will probably end up with another couple dozen MBs even though they are going to be $100 more.

Wish I had more time to trap....

The forged offset is just a touch thicker and has a little less of an edge than the regular jaw, and of course it's offset. There is a big difference in traps between their 1.75 2-coil and 4-coil with either jaw type. The 4 coil have a sturdier base and a different pan system. It's a pretty darn good trap, but I put new chain on it and a rod dog. Then I take off 4coils and 2 -coil them with#2 music wire and then it's close to a 550 but still not as durable. The forged offset 4C is the same price as the 550, so I'd go 550. I got 4-5 dozen of the 4C vics for like 10 bucks and love them, but if I were buying new, no way I'd choose them over the 550 at the same price.
