well I got my walk in cooler built I'm impressed with how well this works. I recorded the Temps for 2 days the high temp was 96 the low was 67 the heat index ranged from 70 to 103 the average humidity was around 80. I set the cool bot for 34 the average temp was 35.2 with a low of 32 and high of 44. This cooler is only 4x8x7 it will drop to operating temperature with in 2 hours.
I would buy another one or recommend one in a heartbeat. Now iI may actually look for deer season again.
I tried adding a picture not sure if worked or not if not maybe I can email it to someone for help.

Lugnut you need to make the leap.

Now can take advantage of all the hogs running by and not have to wait on cooler weather.

What did you use for insulation?

Thanks for the review and recommendation Ark Trapper. My first thought was to convert the new fur/meat handling shed into a walk-in cooler. But after reviewing the Coolbot site I realized that was not feasible. At 12 x 16 x 10 it would have taken multiple units to get down to and maintain about 34 degrees in warm weather.

i was at a buddy's place last weekend checking out his deer processing arrangement, specifically his walk-in cooler. He does 300+ deer and bear a year. His cooler was built from another walk-in that somebody was getting rid of and powered by an old unit off a reefer truck. It was built on the cheap and has been serving him well for twenty-plus years.

So I'm still deciding on options, the least expensive of which would be to take my deer to his place and hang them in his cooler for a week. His walk-in holds 16-20 deer and he has said I can can use it.

Yours looks about perfect for hanging/aging a couple or three deer in.

I'm also curious about what insulation you used.

Eh...wot?

This was an old flower shop cooler so the inside is 4x8x7 the old unit was on the top. i filled that hole in. they used 2 - 1" bare (no foil or plastic barrier) insulbead foam board inside the walls.
I put 3/4" foilback w/ barrier inside the room and ceiling. i then put a 1" blue Styrofoam board on the floor i taped all seams. it was 77 in the room yesterday i turned on the unit and within 15 minutes it had dropped to 40. this morning it was read 25-28F..

When we used the box a few years ago had had 6-8 deer in it at a time. i admit they didn't have much room to move around though.

Lugnut call them about that room size they are very easy to work with. I'm impressed with this one.

I had a corner of the garage framed in for mine. That thing is awesome. I use it to store fur and hang deer. Do yourself a favor and learn all you can about parts for your chosen window AC. I bought a big one (14K BTU) and the control panel went out after the warranty ran out. I found the part, but you don't want the hassle when it's full of perishable goods.

That's good news. I have a new a/c unit and a cool bot for the walk in cooler I built just haven't had time to wire it up.

I built an 8x8 with 10' walls cooler 2 years ago in the corner of my shop. I can hang 3 elk in it at a time. The coolbot keeps it around 35F in it. Wish I had built it a few years earlier

I had a cousin up in Rhinelander, Wi. that took a fish shanty (Dark house) and insulated it with foam, then, somehow, he hooked up a window type AC unit to it and re-wired it somehow....no Coolbot. I have no idea how he did it, but it would put frost/ice crystals in the meat of a deer. He passed away last year so I can't ask him the particulars. I regret not paying attention. That would be a handy outfit to have during our bear season and during warm spells in deer season.

Ark Trapper, looks like your setup is fantastic.

hide on or off while hanging? How long do you let them and at 34-38 f

I did it both ways with the old system I had when skinned it let to dried outer layer but it chilled better. Any magic tricks to over come this? We hang 4-6 days
