Vanilla extract and castor. The old female cat in my neighborhood found my work area and has lots of interest in the concoction. Just a dab on my bench leg and she is routinely coming back and rubbing... Aggressively! She has had contact with castor lures before but this seems to be her new favorite. Just sharing something I found interesting.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. If you have some you might try testing Almond oil and castor. Id be intrested in hearing the results if you try it.

Why not! Got a good amount of dried castor and a whole drawer full of commercial lures. I am really just playing around and testing out of boredom. I fish the same spots I trap. Lets me know how some lures work in the summer. When a dirt hole on the bank has beaver tracks all around it, I give that lure a thumbs up.(Yes a dirt hole). So what would you be luring using castor and almond oil? But yeah. I will give it a go and let you know what happens

You can add almost anything with castor and cats will like it. It's the castor that gets the reaction.

I was playing around with a base for coyotes that had a sweet side too it and decided to work the sweet angle of it. Ive I always really liked the smell of almond so I thought why not. The bait turned out to be ok but not great. I did a little more playing and testing with almond and found that it will add to the attractiveness of a formula and it also gives other odors a pretty good boost. It doesn't take but a small amount to get the desired affect with coyotes.

Sounds funny but one decent base for sweet smelling predator bait is salmon Took some very clean pieces of flesh and jarred them up. in summer. One year later the stuff was mild. Been a decade now and still is. Oil sets on top and I mix it back in once a year. Stays a frothy pink/tan. Adding hints of anise, rat musk or honey has worked alright. Better when added to fresh chicken for a bait

No preservatives added to the salmon? Just let it age naturally?

Just real clean. no bones or skin in that one. could of ate the stuff. Rinsed it off with the hose and put in the jar. Hot sunny July day if i remember. It sat in the sun until winter. Had a layer of oil rather quickly and that may have created an air lock for the rest of the flesh. It was salmon and lake trout if I remember correct.
