I am becoming increasingly frustrated with my surroundings, I am becoming ever more tempted to up and leave and head west. I make good money here but to get a place with 5+ acres seems out of reach without becoming a debt slave for 30 years. The politics in MN and locally drive me nuts, every young women I seem to have any interest in would walk out if I actually told them my political positions and it is becoming painful to listen to them talk about their views while biting my tongue.

My only real hesitation to leaving is that my Family is here and my friends are here. I have a small but tight friend circle, basically all of my friends I have known my entire life.

I would be going to Idaho or Montana, either way I would be restarting my own business, one good employee said he would come with.

For those who did it, worth it? Would you do it again?

Head west Donner. I escaped from political persecution in Massachusetts 30 years ago. My only regret is that I didn't do it earlier. You'd be a day and a half from home. We joke in Montana that we get 1 week of summer and three months of company. What do you do?

Both Idaho and Montana are being rapidly polluted with hordes of rabid liberals from California and Washington. You likely won't find them to your liking for very long.

I was born in Alaska and love it but winter gets to be a drag and it would be much more difficult to restart my tree business there, I would have to live around anchorage likely and I am not sure I want to live in anchorage.

Yeah, our county is half the size of the state of Massachusetts. I think they have 6,000,000 people, we have about 100,000. We may have two elected Democrats county wide? I'm not even sure we have two. We're not the most conservative county either. We have a weekly rodeo in town. Last week the announcer was welcoming people from other states. Then he asked if we had any visitors from California. When a few people raised their hands, he said, " We want to welcome you to America, we hope you enjoy your visit." Funny as heck.

A place with a weekly rodeo sounds just my speed.

My area is just feeling small, more moving here all the time, people don't wave on the gravel roads anymore.

If you are that unhappy and you can't find a life companion that shares your views and your young why are you still where you are at? We live in the most mobile society the world has ever seen and to me if debt would be the only hurdle to find a better life it is only money really.

If you want to stay in the east to be closer to family you might consider Kentucky. There are still a lot of conservatives there and the population is high enough the state won't be quickly overwhelmed by liberal imports from Cali, Oregon, Wash or NY. If you want to go west go now. You will make new friends. You might also consider South Dakota. It's a beautiful state, seems to be solidly conservative, and is not so far from your home.

Northern MN is a great state, I moved 25+ years ago. Unfortunately I think that folks moving now are making a mistake. I know it's hard, but I think if everyone moves rather than fight, our nation will be lost. I didn't move because of politics, but I can understand the frustration. Idaho is getting more and more people from Cali, Ore, and Wash. moving here. Problem is they bring their failed politics with them.

My sister and brother in law moved to MT about 5 years ago. Said everyone was kind of distant until they found out they weren't from the left coast. Land is very $$$ if you can find it. They wanted to start a cattle ranch but again once everyone found that out no land became available. I have considered moving myself but was thinking perhaps WY.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Bought my first house and half a city block in 98 for $7300. Nice place no junk hole for sure. Sold it for 14k a few years later. Bought two nice houses in the area in the last few years both for 60k each. Come west the people are great. Land and houses are cheap

I've heard he's real fond of minnesoteans.

I don't blame the guys from the west for being possessive or a bit cold, I'm not real psyched about all the folks moving in around here either.
