Never dried them on a string. We let them dry on the plant one year. Then shelled the beans out by hand. Once was enough. I am happy buying dried beans.

Some of those pole or string bean variety's sold today still have that string in them. Never seen it in bush beans though. Some of them that get that string only get it when you let them grow to big.
