Hello. 1950 H Farmall 6 volt. Went to start it last week, cranked twice, saw a spark out of the corner of my eye at the Neg battery post(yes the positive ground/battery is hooked up correctly), and then nothing. Hit the start button and zero, nothing, nada. Charged the battery and tried again this AM and zero. Volt gauge moves when the run button is pulled out and when the start button is pushed in but zero noise of any kind. I ran it a month ago and then a week or so after that my cousins two boys were telling me about being on it, pretending to drive it, knew in detail some of the knobs and levers, etc. Now when I was little on the same, and other tractors, I too pretended to drive them and believe me I used every moving part available. My thought is they kicked/moved/hit something that caused a short and fried something. May not be. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on where to start? Thank you for your time.
UPDATE Hello. After the initial two cranks, spark, nothing, charged, nothing - I had taken it to NAPA where I got it to have it tested. Guy said it had 6 volts and was fine. Charged it again and this AM nothing, zero. I looked it over. Volt meter was not moving so I decided to take it back to NAPA one last time before I started messing with everything. They were closed so I thought I would take it by the Auto Value. Guy there said it had 4 volts but then said it had ZERO amps. Bought one of theirs, put it on, fired right up, and brush hogged. I think I am going to convert it to 12v as the Interstate NAPA batteries are only warranted for 6 months and this one is a whole year. Thanks all for your time.

Clean your ground cable real good on both ends and Goop it. Positive too. Make sure the cables aren't corroded inside under the insulation.

On our H when something similar to this would happen, the starter would stick while engaged. To cure it we either, rocked it in gear or we had to loosen the starter bolts till it disengaged. Good luck

First clean everything, second make sure you have a full charge in the battery, third if you still have the kick switch make sure its good otherwise you have a solenoid that can go bad, or like cur dog said, pretty simple on those tractors.

How does the battery test?
I converted my Cub to 12 volt, so much cheaper and easier.

Personally, I’d ask the thousands of Farmall experts at www.mytractor.com
There’s a forum dedicated to Farmalls.
And all others.
Been a member there for a decade.
Whether it’s the Cub cadet riding mower or ‘60 JD 1010 or the 8n or the big IH 856 , that sites got me covered.

X2. I’d try this and check connections for tightness. Still a no go I’d shine up all the connections, retighten and try again.

We started ours with the hand crank since I was 10.

Where is the starter switch at? On the starter or steering pedestal? These switches can be a problem. The battery cable ends and battery posts also.

Pretty simple, but we had starting issues regularly. Have a super m we still run, it starts great, it could sit in the woods for a year and still fire right up.

If nothing else works, your starter might need new bushings and brushes.

Take a screwdriver and jump the starter. If the starter works then its a switch.

Check connection, especially at the battery where the sparks flew.

Battery corrosion at the connections can do it. Pull the connectors apart and brush them well. Pull rod starter? Those things give me fits on my Cub. I've replaced three or four over the past six or seven years. Remove the starter and give it a spin with your fingers and reinstall. It could be as simple as that. Might be a bad connection anywhere along the way. Check them all. It's almost always something simple.
