Super H was my first trapping rig.

Sounds like loose battery connection to me.
Good luck.

Jump the starter and rule it out, then go from there. Be sure the tractor is out of gear, had a guy I knew a couple years ago jump a tractors starter and it started in gear and flattened him flat, he did not survive even 10 minutes.

Good deal.......that stuff is frustrating.
I had trouble getting a riding mower to start. Brand new battery wouldn't start it. I burned up the starter trying. Bought a new starter. Still nothing. Started looking at CCA and the new NAPA battery was only 200 CCA. Bought a 350 CCA from farm supply and no problems since.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

If it still has a magneto on it you can use a 12 volt battery to start it, the mag is a system of its own . If someone has switched over to a distributor , which i doubt or they would have switched it to 12v then. Switching from 6v to 12v will burn the points out unless you change coils, I think if that needs something else , please someone add to this. What you can do is get you a Chevy 1 wire alternator and you may have to make some brackets for it . Last one I bought off Ebay was about $50. The Chevy one wire has its own regulator and is the cheapest easy way, for me anyway.
