granted, we are a small congregation in a small village.

the message a few weeks ago was centered on traps set for us by Satan. Our preacher referenced Psalms 124; and referred to me BY NAME in the sermon.

it was along the lines of "now, I didn't check with Don to see just how a fowler would set snares, but I imagine..."

We had never discussed trapping, but I guess word gets around.

I didn't mind, but it did catch me a bit off-guard, I have to say!

For some reason I am referred to often; don't really mind it, I have nothing to be ashamed of.

My name seems to come up a lot too.

I guess in our church if your name gets said its a prayer request because your pretty much dying so if your name gets said you’re out of luck.

Well at least the gossip.

One preacher had been telling some things that were half-truths about a guy and cost the guy in business and tarnished his reputation. After finding out his information wasn't all true he went to an older preacher and told him what he had done. He asked him how he could fix it. He told him to get a feather pillow and empty the feathers in a sack. Then to drive the 10 mi. to town scattering the feathers a little at a time in the wind. The guy asked then what. The preacher said now go pick up all the wind scattered feathers. The young pastor said: I can't do that! The old preacher said neither can you ever repair the reputation of someone you have torn down.

It happened to me too. The old pastor we had a number of years ago, dropped my name from the pulpit about trapping, and I can't remember quite how he worked it in. It was at least fifeteen years ago, but was surprised when it happened!

Quite often, lol. But I've been known to heckle my pastor as well.

Most memorable was back in high school. Our church let out evening service earlier than a nearby church and one of our group was sweet on a girl there so one evening as we slipped in the back about the time the preacher was getting warmed he welcomed these young men from Union Hill and wanted to know which of his young ladies we were there to visit.

Oh man any time an illustration like that comes up I get mentioned.....half the congregation thinks I'm a Canadian moose hunter and/or in pest control because of it. (They let me take the coons off the property in the fall)


I have also been called out (when younger) for being an idiot along the lines of "don't be like that guy".

Well they tried on me about 30 years ago , 1987 to be exact, and said that to trap was of the devil. I turned it on them with God's trap and snare.

Ezekiel 12:13-15

13 My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.

14 And I will scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them.

15 And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall scatter them among the nations, and disperse them in the countries.

in my case, it was definitely NOT a slam against Trapping...just a "tie-in" to the congregation.
