In an enclosed wood stove with good ventilation. I know the old arsenic was a no-no, but they don't use arsenic anymore. Has anybody burned it in small quantity without worry or is it a huge violation? They say a tablespoon of the ashes MAY kill you, but I don't plan on eating it.

We do, as we have scrap from projects now and then. Haven’t seen a problem so far, you can smell it some if you’re outside and the wind is just right. Compared to some of the stuff people shove through their outdoor boilers(tires, utility poles, garbage, used diapers) a load of green treated lumber here and there in a wood stove shouldn’t be of concern. Our ash gets spread on the rock drive or bagged after going cold and sent in the garbage. That said, I wouldn’t burn it if I lived in town and prevailing breeze sent it directly to a close neighbors house 30’ away, especially if I liked that neighbor.

I'll burn small pieces in my woodstove in my shop. I believe arsenic was replaced with copper sulphite although I do not know for sure.

When I still lived in Florida, I lived along the water. I was told by Home Depot there was two types of treated lumber ... one with arsenic and one without it. You can not us the arsenic treated would in or where it might get in the water. I ask how can you tell the difference and was told that the arsenic treated lumber still has the green tint to it. The other lumber doesn't have a specific tint to it.
I as understand the non-arsenic lumber is treaded with some other salt of some kind and all though it it isn't poisonous to the extent of arsenic, to some people it is still toxic, therefore it shouldn't be burned when and where someone may breath-in the fumes or where they may encounter them.
Just how I was instructed........

I run a Mill that makes pressure treated fence posts and timbers. Several chemicals are used depending on use of treated wood. Human contact or non human contact. Most are a copper based chemical. When the wood comes out of the pressure vessel it is black, goes to drip area to reclaim runoff and it is reused. As the wood dries it turns brown, it is then moved outside where it turns green as it dries. The tag is applied to the end showing chemical, treatment level, ground contact, above grade use and human or non human contact. When treated the wood is put under negative air pressure for about 20 minutes, then flooded and put under pressure of 145 psi for about 20 minutes. I have read many material data safety sheets on the different chemicals and I wouldn't burn it, and smoke and vapors can speed corrosion of chimneys and stoves. Probably more info than needed, but treated fence posts are what I do, somebody has to. Lol
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!
