Four times as many Republicans are moving here as are Democrats....now are they really Conservative or are they more inline with the Establishment Republicans....which are really Demicans and Republicrats....I don't know. But this state is nowhere near turning into a purple state, not by a long shot.

So what is there to trap, hunt, and fish for around the CDL area?

I have already mentioned the hunting. As far as trapping we have cats, dogs, water trapping, marten, ermine, striped skunk and red fox are starting to move in. Also lots of wolves. In the fishing info real good smallmouth, walleye are becoming numerous in lake P.O. Lake CDA has landlocked chinook, lots of kokanee, northern pike, decent cutthroat fishing in some of the catch and release streams. Tiger muskies and all the panfish, channel cats the list goes on. All these within easy driving distance. Priest Lake and Lake P.O. Have lake trout. Most of these fish have decent numbers if on the smaller side. If you like planted rainbow most of the put and take lakes are easy. There is a lot of water so you won't get bored. Some can be fished from shore some you will need a boat. Anything in particular you are interested in?

Minka, those towns , except Blanchard, Pritchard, Avery, wolf lodge area, are easily within driving distance to main town CDA. From Rathdrum, around 6-7 miles I think, to Twin Lakes, to Spirit Lake, a few more, maybe a 20 minute drive to Rathdrum proper. It's been so long since I did that I can't recall exactly. But it isn't long at all.
I would guarantee you that cost in literally everything for living there , is much less expensive than where you reside now. A bunch. After you move and get settled, monthly bills, utilities, food, etc, you will absolutely save yearly in spending. Just one flight expense to get somewhere where you are now would equal a decent amount of funding that could go into a number of other things, at the least, money kept in your bank.
The ONLY minus I can see , is the absence of the AK Range that you see from where you are . There are no big ranges in N ID , but the lakes, rivers, treed hills are their own beauty regardless. Big mountains begin in Mid state Idaho on down, along the ID-MT border on down. That's the main reason I had my goal to move to MT, are the mountain ranges , and in an area that is sparse in road access and population.
I would say, if you can stay at the kid's home for a visit, do that and then drive to any outer areas and have a first hand look around. New goals in happiness attained are always an amazing voyage and one is never too old to begin.
I would even be tempted to have a spin down there to visit sometime .

I love the Prichard area , and the little town of Murray .. Just 38 hours and 2542 miles to the Sprag Pole Inn and museum..from my door .. :-) Going back some day ... I used to play old time fiddle, bluegrass and folk music in a band at the Snake Pit, if you're familiar with that place...great food, once you get used to the name Cant recall the name of the giant cedars to see, but like here in Montana, they are towering and gorgeous. I bet Jack would remember the name of that place....there are nothing like the variety of conifers as in the NW of Idaho, Montana, and west coastal WA. on up into BC.

Sharon -
Yes, there are some impressive trees in that area. The only place that comes to mind in that country is the Settlers Grove of Ancient Cedars not too far out of Pritchard. That the place you had in mind?

Yes sir, Jack that's the one ! Gotta love those cedars and hemlock. The most variety of gorgeous conifers. Forestry Dept told me that line is almost perfect to HI 12 ..north...where that variety can be found. I am near Ross Creek cedars. Power out all over N ID and NW MT, Jack....I'm in Sandpoint at a favorite cafe enjoying breakfast -one of the few places that are open ! The place is jumpin. Trees down over lines all over. NOT a day to be driving semi or those huge bread box RV's . Several of those are pulled over waiting for a calm. Been years since I've seen this magnitude of a wind event. Very few places in town here are even open. Would not want to be in the Supercub now either ! Minka, the abbreviation is CDA, not CDL . I would expect you to drive over in a semi with a CDL

Wind screaming here as well, and we almost never get winds. Associated rain is becoming a frog-strangler, but is predicted to change over to snow by this evening. See what you've got to look forward to James?

Jim Look at the regs for those at idfg Jim Back in the 80’s we had plenty of either sex elk seasons and even caribou. Not sure bout nowadays. Hope the wolves have not hurt the ungulates like they have in central Id.

Thanks for the comments, all. Yeah, Sharon, we'll have to visit.
Would it be better to live in Washington or Idaho in that area?
If there are a bunch of Californians moving in, I'm inclined to overlook the place. They tend to ruin wherever they set foot en masse.
Jim You will like Idaho politics much better. To many anti/liberal types in WA. and if it would be doubtful to lose any hunting/trapping opportunities in Idaho, at least in the foreseeable future.

Sharon you wouldnt have been at the Hoot Owl would you have been for breakfast? LOL We had breakfast one day there and it was amazing.
Man I am glad we got out while we could! Didnt know the winds were forecast to be like that there today.
We just returned from 4 days in Sandpoint which is just up the road a ways from Coeur d' Alene. It was the first time there for either of us. Beautiful scenery, especially for us flat landers. We met a lot of great people and for the most part they were as Conservative as us in a number of ways. We drove through Coeur d' Alene on the way to Sandpoint, stopped for a few minutes just to check it out. You could definitely tell it was a tourist town, prices and people of that like to confirm that. It seems that Sandpoint might fall that way too soon, we heard from the true locals that it is getting worse every year. Way too many Californians looking to "re-home". New construction is going bonkers. Locals say it is almost impossible to find someone to come do any home repairs as everybody is tied up in new construction where the money is being made. Plenty of microbreweries in the area to help drown your worries, I think we managed to stop at all of them! LOL Great place to visit and I think we will likely go back again, but not sure I could get myself to move there permanently with the way the area is booming. We are definitely Huckleberry fans now! You can find just about any drink and food with Huckleberrys in it this time of year.
