A few hunters have been injured up here since they opened the bison season back in the 90s, but this is the first fatality. Very sad affair. Fish & Game say that a full 75% of the bison harvested have been wounded previously. They have a minimum caliber restriction here for bison and in my opinion that is the problem. Guys buy guns they cant shoot and bad things happen. Im not saying that was the case here, but it is the reason so many are wounded.

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

I don't have any idea what the minimum caliber is up there but in my mind it's a .243 or a .270 but as with anything bullet placement is paramount .
I've watched a big bull buffalo literally pick up it's fallen buddy ( another big bull buffalo that just was shot and killed ) with its horns and with a flick of its head tossed the dead bull quite a ways as if it were no big deal.

I feel that most folks think because they're so big that they're slow that's their biggest mistake ha ha
It's a heart breaking deal for the family and friends who are left to deal with the after effects.
Allan

Man has been killed by large animals he has been hunting since the dawn of time. This is the way of things. It’s as it should be. Terrible loss for his family and friends nonetheless.

Prayers for this mans family.

Alan you are right- big and dumb might apply but there is nothing slow about bison especially when you get them riled up.

That's for sure the cutting horse folks love then for training their horses , just make sure you keep your dog's away from them as they'll try their best to kill them .

Sad to hear. I was talking to a guy that raised them once. He told me once in a while a older bull would decide he didn’t want to be there anymore. Pick a direction, drop his head, and start blowing through fences!! I ask him how they got them back. His reply was “A 270 and a winch truck”

I agree with Allan that these big beasts look slow, but they sure aren't. I remember the first time I saw Wildebeests on one of the ranches I trap on here in Texas, and wow are they cool. And bigger than I thought, having grown up with "Wild Kingdom." So as I inch closer to a group of three young bulls, playing and goring each other as they seem to do all day long... and then.... they look at me. AND THE RACE IS ON!

I mean, I had that 1000 cc buggy unwound to get away from them!!!
They are 0-60 in a bing-bang-gettie-up-and-gone!

It was a bit hairy until I hit 40 mph and then that just made them madder.
They have stamina that they didn't show on TV with those crocs grabbing 'em in the water.
Man, those crocs must be one tough hombre.

Blessings,
Mark

That thing looks purdy healthy- I'd get someone to flank him before you free style a guy like him LOL

Hey, well they look dumb and maybe they aren't as intelligent as a woodpecker. Only God know all that, and that's the hitch.
When they whack and stack you and send you to your final Home, I believe the young wildebeest bull would say, "Did I hit something?"
