It costs well over a thousand dollars here to leave a vial of blood and get lab work done on it.

I would rather have the broken system we have now than to turn it over to the government and make it 10 times worse!

Between 150,000 and 350,000 Americans go over seas for medical treatment every year.Because of cost being about half and quality of care as good.

Sort of like car insurance. Somebody has to pay for the uninsured/underinsured drivers?

Google healthcare costs across the world.
USA is way , way above everyone else , by a HUGE margin. This is why medical tourism is growing at an astounding rate.

I have said this for years , we need to burn the healthcare system to the ground (metaphorically) and start over. The system is so , so , so bad it is beyond repair. Doctors , lawyers , hospitals , insurance companies , big pharma etc are over charging up the kazoo.
It is also beyond government control , one of the biggest lobbyists are the medical industry.

You really want to gamble that intelligent people will still want to be doctors without being paid to be one?

Someone posted a story about a welder that completed two different beads during an interview. One that was perfect and one that looked like bird crap. When asked about it the welder explained one was the $36/hr bead and the other was the $18/hr bead.

Google level/quality of healthcare in the world. Last time I looked , we (USA) are about 17th in quality of care. With the exorbitant cost here , you would think we would be at least in the top 10 if not higher. The cost here is way above even the 2nd highest cost in the world.
It has been also noted that the medical industry in the USA causes over 250,000 deaths per year due to mistakes. That is kept very quiet.

I'm all for good quality of care , the people who work in that industry also deserve to get paid well for their training , schooling and expertise.

However I would not pay a welder $100 an hour when another welder can do a better job for $36 a hour.

And how long do you think that $36/hr welder is going to be a $36/hr welder when everybody realizes your brilliance?

I see no need for doctors at all, when we have Trapperman. All you have to do is ask a question here and you get all kinds of expert medical advice. I think everything from hang nails to heart attacks has been covered. It's just incredible the amount of knowledge you receive from people practiced in the art.

Government intervention will only make it worse.

Insurance companies are driven by profit and not patient services.

I think the problem is rooted in the lobbyists and campaign donors. it has been influencing and rooted in our legislators for 50 years since the inception of health insurance. From this perspective it would take a change from government. Unfortunately, I have no confidence that government could fix it. The same goes for the pharmaceutical industry.

I have heard of some private, independent doctors that basically administer their own insurance program. Don’t understand it completely but apparently it’s very affordable for patient and without all the extra administrative overhead still profitable for the doctor

A friend of mine went to India for hip replacement and saved $9000, including the cost of the ticket.

And keep in mind, 50% of all doctors graduated in the lower half of their class.

An Indian doctor has a pediatric practice here in America. He’s never here because he’s over helping his country but he’s making money off America. Perhaps that’s why. lol

Actually, there are lots of folks going outside of the US for medical and dental treatment. It is a growing industry known as Medical Tourism. But you do not see folks going to places like Canada where they have government run health care.

I have done some trapping for a local fella who happens to be one of if not the leading authority on Medical Tourism. He has books published and maintains a website on the subject. That is all he does and is making a good living doing it. Do a search on Patients Beyond Borders for more info.

I was not aware of this before I met this fella who had coyotes killing his chickens.

Why is it that you never hear of any other countries trying to emulate the American health care system?
Most of the rest of the world really likes and strives to do many of the other things we do but not healthcare?

I would like everyone who's in this discussion, take a moment and answer this question honestly.

What Federal/Government program has ever run efficiently and effectively? Aside from the tax system. And its questionable.

Go, folks!
