They do not live here but across the divide HOWEVER this is a great thread .Something to be learned ,I think we are all sick of the current events in USA ,Colombian Ground squirrel here ,he sleeps from 3 rd week in Aug to ------ late March or they came out under 2 ft of snow in April a few years ago I think many died off that year ! Thanks

We have hundreds of them around here. This spring I showed the neighbor how to catch them with a 5 gallon bucket of water. The little buggers where digging up his corn seed he just planted so I took a 5 gallon bucket, buried it so about 1/4 of it was above ground. Then filled it to ground level with water and put about a pound of sunflower seeds in it and placed a small board to act as a ramp, They think the seeds are solid ground but find out too late. He caught 22 the first week and added several more pails to the edge of the field and caught another 100 or so over the next few weeks. Our township pays a bounty of 50 cents each so he got his grand kids involved and they had a blast as well as made a little money.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

The weaner dog wanted out today like she saw a gopher. It was too cold for gophers to be out in the late morning, but I let her out anyway. She went to hunting right away and had a long tail weasel hemmed up between the metal trellis and house. There is two clematis growing on it so it is like a jungle. He was still brown so I gave him a pass.

My girlfriend uses the large wooden rat traps. She puts peanut butter on the trigger with a few sunflower seeds. She sets by the hole and puts a 5 gallon bucket over the trap and hole. Usually has them within a few minutes. I will have to try this. I usually set rat traps with yellow pans in front of the holes they dig under my shed. No shortage here this year. imagine the bucket is to keep the birds out?

Never has been a shortage of them around here. Lots of edge cover for them to work. I was 40 years old before I knew that what we always called gophers were actually 13 lined ground squirrels. Really impeded my research on how to control "gophers ".
I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. O Lord please don't let me be misunderstood.
