Anyone else got a little local place that they prefer to do groceries at than a big chain place? For me it this little place we got called Vines, I've been going here for as long as I can remember ,used to just be a little corner store with splintered up wood floors a beer cooler, drink machine, game processing in the back and some candy at the counter, then slowly they got some gas pumps, then a little hot bar, then a deli then a little butcher set up, now they got a whole second store in the city over the way, Vines brand deer sausage, boiled peanuts, locally produced honey, locally produced meats, a dine in part eat. Able to find slot of stuff her that you can't in lot of places too, how head cheese, red rind hoop cheese, rabbit, goat on various holidays, used to sell coon there too. BBQ was rated as some if the best in MS a little while back too. I don't know I've always found it cool being able to say I was able to watch this little place grow. Anyhow anyone else got a place like this

There's a place called shoppers value. It's a little grocery store in Luray,VA. I like it pretty good. They have bbq in the parking lot on Saturdays.

I have 2 or 3 local butchers that spoil me, they are all German family owned and spoil us or so I thought. One time after working on the coast I stopped at a Polish ma & pa locker and it was great too.
I guess the lesson is every time I shop at a family business, farmers market, or even a stand beside the road I get better quality food than in a big chain store.

What a cool homey place, Wolfie !
I have a place very like that in a small town north of me...deer, elk, sheep, moose and waterfowl mounts line the walls throughout the store. The aisle signs are coated black metal with animals and mountains in decor around the letters and numbers. I love that place...a hardware store is attached to it too. Very low key, unhurried, good local products. Reflects the Rocky mountains and the western feel of this area to perfection.

City Market in Wrangell has mounted deer heads hanging around. But you sure wouldn't see many places like that in a lot of the "lower 48" That caribou is a long way from home; I'd like to know the story.

Yep, the store I frequent has fish on the walls! I'll get pics tomorrow. Another store across town, the guy is a big game hunter but doesn't display it in his store. Must not want to offend anyone!

We have one that we go to. Fresh cuts, not a chain, and stuff you are proud to prepare for your family and friends. Thanks Wolfdog for posting this. Reminds of why we go there. Jim

Hey, AntiGov- I like granola to eat once and a while. I just don't hug trees or bunnies...
