I always would make sure, when using a rock, to keep it on the jaw and not touching the trigger at all. I think the springs are so fast they aren't hindered by the rock/brick.

Here's an inexpensive option- 1 patio block makes (3), by a block that is pre-scored into thirds. Drill (2) holes with a masonry bit (1) for a coni bracket (1) for chain mount. I use them in culverts and BE sets. That is a great set up and helps stabilize the conibear trap. Bring an extra brick with you if you want to lean one against the side of the trap. Chris

I have often wondered if mounting the stablizer directly to the brick as shown in the pictures above, will cause some mink to view it as an obstacle and swim around the set. So therefore, I prefer to use the stabilizers built by Jerry LeBeau from Maine. They are sold by Sterling Fur as a JL #110-#220 Body Mount for around $2.00 each. When using bricks, I like to spray paint them black before the season. Seems to blend in better and gives it a weathered look compared to a brick that was just purchased at Home Depot.

trapperroscoe, yes, it will fire. This trap was positioned against the bridge wall an the rocks. It was in about 18" of water. Good luck to you this upcoming season.

Thank you all for the great answers. I will for sure use this information this upcoming fall. Ya u can lay brick on spring an down an against side jaw a little. I done it many times. Mink an rats, only trouble had them sets , coon get in them , usally find trap an brick close. It dont hold them or long, once found brick that coon got 110 off days later. Maybe 100 ft away, sometimes I had look for brick an trap an show up few days later when had time search close. Where coon got trap off foot, have had coon eat rat in trap an drag trap off an brick maybe 30-40 ft away, I try if possible an got time check morning, a no.11 wired to cement block on side cement culvert. For coon also , if shallow, mink to
