Pulled one of my cameras off the farm and found this guy on it - obviously a big bodied mature deer with what looks like maybe old road rash from a vehicle strike or something. Of course his head is not in the picture so I'm wondering what kind of headgear he has. What I can't figure out is what is going on with his left hindquarter??
I replaced the camera with one I could put in video mode, hopefully he shows himself again.

ouch!

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

A fifth leg?

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Lol, I'll admit I wondered that too when I first saw it. It's probably something stuck in it's hip like previously stated but who knows. I have five cameras out so hopefully he shows up again. He's about 25 yards from one of my stands in the photo.

It's the femur sticking out. His hind quarter is all messed up as is the whole side of the deer.

Looks like the lower leg is withered as well could be from an accident or maybe even born that way

My brother has a dog that has two feet on one leg and 6 toes on the other three

Admittedly both the first and the second foot is malformed but even so she gets around just fine

I think if his rear leg was no good at all the camera trigger speed would have got him center frame, I have several others from the same spot and camera in the middle of the photo. They are tough animals for sure - I culled one a few years ago that was missing half a front leg. It was an old injury, it was healed over and his rack grew all goofy on the opposite side (below). He was still struggling though and needed to go. Shot one last year that had an old broadhead imbedded in his shoulder that had healed over.
