I've taken many bucks much bigger than this, but this one offered an easy and fun 23 yard shot last Sunday evening. Thought he was a 2.5 year old but tooth wear says 3.5. Yeah, I know, but these almost Florida swamp deer dont get as big as up the country...115 pound LW.

No matter...90 degrees with about 75% humidity...I'm very happy with the season's first bow kill. This old man's standards are shifting more towards enjoyment than bragging rights. I'm still shooting a compound...no crossbow..yet.

Mathews Triax @ 66 lbs. Wasp Jak Hammer broadheads..

200 yd drag thru head high palmettos was about more than I could pull off...

Can't tell if it's the picture but the antlers look flattened out a bit. Very cool!!

Yeah...his antlers were thicker than normal for a rack that size. He's got a sticker at the base on the right side. For a small rack he had unusual mass.

Standards shift with age. Keep plugging along.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

That’s awesome! How many bucks can you shoot each year?

Singled this buck out last year in September from trail cam pics...same property. Thought
I had him patterned.
Hunted him as careful as I could with a bow until mid-November with no luck even seeing him and stressing out about bumping him off my place and about the neighbor's rifle shots I was hearing. I put the bow up and got out the 7mm-08....killed him at 50 yds first morning hunting with the rifle.

I enjoyed the recent bowkill way more than taking the split G2 buck with a rifle

In Ga, we are allowed 2 antlered deer, one of which must have 4 point on one side. We are allowed 10 antlerless deer.

On some managed public land hunts the deer dont count against your season limit as they are tagged by state or federal staff depending in the area.

Nice buck. I can't imagine hunting in 90 degree weather though. I stay home if it gets much over 60 here so I rarely deer hunt before mid October.
