That depends on the soil. Sloppy organic muck takes more depth, hard clay takes less. You know it when it’s solid.

It all depends on your soil. Here, 6 ft KPs handle any and all situations that I need them for. That doesn’t mean it works everywhere, that just means I make it work where I need it.

I was curious. Thanks for the update. I've never used completely submerged snares in open water but I don't see why they wouldn't work. I can think of a few sets just off the top of my head. Good luck to you.

Snarepoles set blind are just as deadly in open water as they are under ice.

Thanks Slydogx, got your PM. By strict interpretation then there's no obligation that the snare will hold the beaver submerged just that the snare be set submerged. Hard not to be skeptical that the issue may be subject to interpretation on a regional level.

Crit, I think one could reasonably assume that the snare must be set in a way that would immediately submerge and drown the animal... similar to the foothold reg

"WMU 94 is located in Part 1 of the Suspended Snare Trapping Regulation Plan where the use of snares is not permitted. There is an exemption for snares set under the surface of any body of water. The snare must be set completely under the surface of the body of water and the snare must be equipped with a snare lock."
