Ok, so I use 550s but thought it would be cool to get some 650s since I could trade my 450s for them. Problem is I can't get one to set. After catching my hand once I figured I would see what y'all have to say. The pan seems to not hold on the catch. Pan also loose. They are used but look to be in great shape.

Wish I had more time to trap....

That's a known wear issue with the 650. The surfaces of the pan and notch wear over time.

Got a couple to set, just luck of the draw I grabbed the worn out one first. I tried a slight filing and tightened the pan but still being catch. Thanks for the information. I guess I will buy a few and for this one and future.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I stopped using the night latch on my 650's, and my 550's that I had to bend the dog pretty far on to get the pan tension right on. Now when I set them, I set them right in the notch. Sticking my fingers in the 650's always made me a little nervous, and having to reset the 550's ,and hoping I didn't crack the cast jaws when they would fire sometimes when I was setting from the night latch.

Tighten the pan screw.650's don't do well with a loose pan.I have had mine since they came out and so far,no wear issues. Also make sure there is no wax on the contact points. The pan contact area is a little awkward to get to but make sure you see bare metal on that spot.I believe though, the loose pan is the likely culprit.

I'm like Taxi....tight pan and cleaned out notches....especially after trap prep and after a catch.
