Hello, I’ve been trapping my own land for 5 years and state land the last couple years as well but I was looking at HAP land or the hunting access program that we have. It’s states in the rules that these areas are open for hunting only. Does that mean you can’t trap? I would consider trapping as hunting but I’m not sure if there is a legal difference between the two.

Not being familiar with the laws in tour state, the best advice I can give you is to contact your local Game Warden. You should already have a 'Good Working Relationship' with him / her already anyway.

Hunting and trapping are different, hence, two different licenses. Id bet you are going to find you cant trap on HAP land....let us know what you find out.

What does HAP stand for ? Hunting access permited ?

In Wisconsin we have open forest crop land. Its private land that gets a tax break for letting hunters and hikers in but trapping is not allowed but most landowners will let you trap just find out who it is and ask.
Not sure if that is similar to HAP but worth a shot if it is.

H.A.P is hunting access program, in michigan. The program allows tax breaks to farmers/landowners that allow hunting of certain species on their lands. Landowners can specify which species can be hunted on their land. I trap on several HAP parcels of land, with landowners permission, of course.
