Any recommendations on good scopes? I have a Savage Axis in 7mm-08 and can't get it to group worth a darn with any ammo. I am starting to wonder if it could be the scope that is on it. Its a bushnell that came as a package from savage. Have had the gun for prob 5 years and never hunt with it because I can't get a group under about 6 inches. So I would like to change out the scope and see if that makes a difference. Would like to stay in the 200 dollar range if possible. Thanks in advance.

Leupold or vortex would be my choice.

I have had good luck with Leupold.

Before you do that you might want to check that the scope mounts aren't loose. I had a mount come loose on a scope once and group size increased exponentially.

Scope is tight, and my nephew has the same gun, same scope and the same problem.

I like Leupold, Swarovski or Zeiss but that may be overkill on an axis. I would double check the mounts and rings and go with an affordable scope.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Have you checked your stock tension? Witnessed a few savages with incorrect tension on them and wouldn’t hold a group worth a darn

Well, look at you with Swarovski and Zeiss....

Go big or go home with those two.

Solid choices.

With two guns doing the same thing I would think it is more gun. While definitely not top of the line I have a Bushnell on a Winchester M70 in 7mm Mag and it will shoot under an inch at 100 yards all day. That said the glass isn't the best and clarity leaves something do be desired and it will be replaced once I have enough cash floating around.

Take look at Vortex Razor HD LHT, just came out excellent glass. Have 2, mounted on 6mm Creedmoor, and Tikka T1x 22. Have a Sig Whiskey 5, in same power another good scope

In your price range too on sale. Going to be near impossible to beat a deal like that for $200.

I'm thinking not scope. There is something else going on with those rifles. Stock contact, base and or scope not mounted correctly, stock tension, head space something. I have dealt with a couple of Savage packages and they shoot lights out with those inexpensive scopes.I have an Axis in 30-06 that i load to high speed 168 gr Barnes at 3,000 fps and it is a tack driver. I will admit I'm not a big Axis fan because the recoil lug is in the stock not the barrel. There in lies the problem with stock tension. I personally would send it back to Savage. I'm having 2 Savage 110 actions trued at this very moment that are going to become 300 PRC's one stainless and one carbon. I have had great luck with Savage. I lost a BUNCH of rifles in the great river incident of 2018 of all makes and models and except for custom they will shoot with any of them if you do your part.
