Paul, thank you. I realize others do or may not realize what antis are truly like. It is unfortunate some cannot see the benefit of what you were and are trying to do. Education is difficult when people are not interested in learning. One cannot react irrationally and in anger. Well done sir!

Yes thanks Mr. Dobbins. Itís been good to see how antis view us. I wish we could have had a discussion but in the long run he didnít want to listen to us he just wanted to tell us how cursed we were for trapping.

Trapping is what built North America, why take that away?

My take from the petr experiment is that there is no point wasting time with animal rights supporters because they are irrational and overly emotional and can not be influenced by logic. I believe that it is highly likely they have mental issues from chemical imbalances in their brains. Their very poor social skills, lead to them living exceedingly lonely lifes, where their only positive interactions are with animals.

Logic and facts can be used to sway the general, mentally healthy public, but the extreme liberal animal rights people are hopelessly lost.

To me, it seemed that he had no intention of seeing things in any other way than the way he believed them to be, and thought that by verbally spanking us, we'd be brought into the light.

It is good to see that people have compassion, but it should be held in context of the big picture, otherwise the arguments sound rather childish. Yes, some razzed him a bit--I bet we'd get the same if anyone here joined a Vegan forum and began a discussion that went against the grain. But many here were lucid, kind, generous, thoughtful, and fully explaining their personal opinions in a very personable way. In an environment like that, if one is truly seeking discussion, you engage those who are reaching out to you and ignore the rest. I didn't see that.

I don't think Petr understood the crowd. He entered a world of hunters and trappers as an apex predator and found he couldn't hold his own. Had he entered as a fawn, he may have been treated differently.

I would hope every man always has a right to his own opinions. I have my own and I am confident enough in them to let anybody and every body else be wrong from time to time.

That being said, I guess it pays to remind us all that some people are proud (yes actually proud) to be wrong about everything.

And if you dont have to be right what the heck good would facts be? In one ear and out the other I guess.

If there's a silver lining to this whole controversial experiment it's this: Trapperman is an open forum, anyone can come here and read without having membership. (Unlike our Canadian site). Trapperman is the epitome of a go to place for animal rights folks wanting to grind their teeth reading and observing images or searching content to discredit our industry. The Petr thread is loaded with excellent information on what, why and how we do what we do for the benefit of wildlife and humankind. Hopefully much of that information will be taken away from that crowd. The thread should be archived and flagged for that purpose.

Now, how do we get that goofy twerker back? grin

Absolutely correct Keith.

I would add that I believe that many, even most of us, understand those points. Animal rights supporters have the same mentality as liberals, I believe many of them ARE liberals. I learned long ago that it is a complete and total waste of time trying to logically reason with any of them. That is why I didn't go back to any of the Petr threads. Once i realized what they were about, I simply ignored them.

In my opinion the entire Petr debacle was a foolish exercise in futility and I doubt many, if any, learned anything from it.

It also cost the site at least one very good trapper who also happens to be my good friend. Had it not been for that incident I would probably just keep my mouth shut.

Mark (PCR2) took a stand for something he strongly believes in. He loves trapping and loved this site. It was like a slap in his face to see an anti-trapper given free reign to spew his foolishness.

Mark could have stated his position much more tactfully and respectfully. But strong feelings equal strong words and his statement to the Boss may have been designed to have exactly the effect it did.

I very much enjoy this site, recent bullcrap excluded. If stating my opinion on the Petr debacle puts me on the chopping block with you Boss, that's a chance I'm willing to take.

Eh...wot?

Iíve learned itís not worth arguing with anti-Trapperís. Much like itís not worth debating why people get the ax. In the end itís the trappers thatís will suffer from PCR being gone. Enjoyed his posts. Iím guessing Petyr if he even exists will float off into the wind. Lugnut next time you talk to him let him know his presence will be missed. Carry on.

Maybe this is a prime example how to stay focused on a problem and when we get frustrated not to shoot ourselves in the foot or even worse our families and friends foot. If we can't get in a fight and channel our energy in a good way, then if we know it makes us crazy then stay out of it. Maybe starting looking for an ignore button in our brain.

That depends on if anyone did learn something. If some did, I consider it a success.

I don't think he did Dirt. He already knew he was the type of man who was willing to stand up for his convictions no matter the cost. No lesson learned there.

Petr was ignorant. Most bunny huggers are. They are not evil. They actually think they are helping animals by preventing the harvest of individual animals. The moral conviction is humans should not kill or harm animals. It is a moral conviction that may or may not help animal populations. A harvesters motivation is very important to them. They really do not understand killing animals for fun. They can understand killing animals for food, clothing and shelter. They still may oppose subsistence harvest, but not nearly so many. As trapping turns more and more into a hobby, it will be much harder to defend. Good Luck!

Perhaps the lesson was not to win, but to state your case with conviction and strength, tempered by the battles of life.
Patton's troops said he was the meanest, strongest, humblest man any of them had ever met.
Many of his men thought humility was a weakness, but he showed them it was his greatest strength in battle. His greatest.
The Germans were an arrogant Aryan people to Patton, and he whooped them because of it - he said years later.
The Nazis sent men to places they should have never sent them and Patton knew he could count on the Nazi pride each and every time.
Especially Hitler and his close confidants.

Patton never wavered as he taught many of our greatest generation a valuable lesson as they watched him defeat greater odds that had mystified earlier Allied forces.

So maybe this was a General George Patton lesson? Only no bullets.
Thanks Bossman.

Blessings,
Mark
