I can see where a lot of would be welders are going to make a big mess out of welding a J hook. Maybe If I was trapping wolves or mountain Lions I might but not for coyotes. Marten Ted trapper Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 390 Idaho	I do mainly for the possibility of incidental lions while bobcat trapping. And there’s always the possibility of a wolf in a coyote set for me. If lions or wolves aren’t a concern though I wouldn’t bother. Lots of extra work.

This and the fact wolves and big cats have moved in over the past few years. But up until recently, I haven't welded mine. I would not suggest to reuse your J hooks though. Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
