Blame this. Blame that.
The goal of too many people in this country is equal outcome. The goal has been and still should be equal opportunity.
Big difference. There will never be equal opportunity. Kids born into wealth always have a hand up. I'm not complaining about it. Just making a point. I Don't really care either way. Its just the way it is. The biggest thing that stops people from anything is themselves. The path may be harder for some, but if they want it bad enough, they can do most anything the set their minds to.
No Jab.

X2 At least in this country. I still think socialism slows it down. Not everyone can be a billionaire no matter how bad they want it. Some people are just smarter than others. Another thing there is no sense whining about, it just is the way things are. For the vast majority anybody getting food stamps or paying off a huge student loan debt on a 40,000 dollar a year salary need only look in the mirror to see who is holding them back.

Some people make a lot of money doing things nobody else is willing to do.
Some people complain about them instead of finding their own niche and making some money of their own.

I have two nephews, brothers, who became electricians. The older hitched on in remote Alaska right out of school and made terrific money thru those in camp schedules. The younger by 4 years stayed in Mn and works for a big commercial contractor. The older is flat broke. Couldn’t find enough things to go in debt on. Won’t work anymore than his shift. The younger who earned less is always working, refinishing his homes and reselling, some side work, never carried debt even on vehicles. The younger at 40 now has a net worth of around 1.4 million and that value accelerates each year and he has more to invest. This is still a great country and you can still earn as much as you want to work for.

Quite unlikely that taxing high income persons more or corporations will change the wealth pyramid much if at all. I feel Bernie is really onto something that we have all not paid much or any attention to. In the past much of the wealth was created by manufacturing, farming, logging, mining etc. This type of wealth creation created a lot of employment and also utilized a lot of resources to make products which creates jobs and wealth too. Today we make a lot of money with just interest and shuffling monies that creates wealth but really does not make a lot of product or nearly the percentage as in the past. We have lost what Henry Ford realized early in his business life, I need to produce a car that my workers can afford to buy. Many on here really are hard on unions and union workers but companies were profitable when unions were stronger and wages as a portion of the GDP were percentage wise higher as well.
Bryce We have a Consumer economy. I don't know how a Consumer economy functions. Best I can tell, is you borrow money (or print it) to consume. Kind of explains why most individuals, States, and the Federal government are so in debt. Probably why interest rates are so low. So people and governments can keep borrowing that money they don't have to consume.

This country hasn't practiced real capitalism for at least 50 years.
As long as our money is backed by debt and a central government gets bigger the divide will grow and grow and grow.

Paid cash for my 2001 and then my 2011 and then my 2013 and lastly my 2020 vehicle. We do not throw away money on stuff. You buy it you need to clean it and repair it. I have never had a used house. My wife and I looked at my first house I built in 1973, man does it ever still look great. Then the next house in 1984 and then another around 2004 and lastly 2015. Now we are done. So building new homes myself and still working full time. I love it but at age 73 I need to stop. Now I want to trap more but prices are not the best but I will trap. I build my own coon traps called coon catchers, they are more friendly than the griz. The younger generation just does not want to work harder. We have been blessed. Wealth and money decisions are not what this topic is about.

Ain't it a pity. People think "I only live once, I better enjoy it." With that attitude they are materialist, buy lots of 'stuff' on credit, pile up debt, after interest they get 80 cents for their dollar, so they wind up with less then blame the world.
Most of those 1% were born with gold spoons, others got there by investing instead of spending. The brightest were able to make profit on barrowed money.

No Blaine, go back and read the original post......the answer is yes, we are working harder for less money today. Wages have remained stagnant while cost of living has gone up. There are many people making a good wage, so they don't understand as their lifestyle is different. For most the population, that's not the case. This has nothing to do with the way they spend their money and how they live. Its just about wage and income. The other is a different topic all together.

It is not my intention to preach. What do you think is the root cause of all those riots that are going on?
Anyway, what is the purpose in life? Do more people live for God and/or life after death, for things, or what? If for family, that is an intermediate answer - what does family live for. Maybe Mark June would have a better answer.

People succeed when (1) they are willing to work hard and (2) they don't expect to be given anything. They earn it. You have the same opportunities as anyone else. Stop expecting a higher wage to be given to you or anyone else. Go earn it. Oh yeah, don't go in debt by buying things you can't afford. Or don't need.
