That is possible. In fact, I think I know who one of those trappers is.

Taking 10 wolves isn’t easy but doable. You have to be deducted, full time, sort of off the beaten path to do it. A weekend trapper setting 5 traps is going to be lucky to get 1 wolf.

I think folks from Pennsylvania and other places back east that have never been to Idaho, don’t realize what Wolf country in Idaho is like.

I have no idea but imagine it extremely steep and rugged. Someday I hope I get the chance to find out.

30 total wolves, 15 hunting and 15 trapping. VERY few guys will come close to limiting out.

I caught ten wolves one year. I must have been dedicated and didn't know it. IMHO you will harvest more wolves having a few knowledgeable dedicated trappers. You throw a bunch of chechakos out there and you just educate wolves. Not harvest them.

You better have a 4 wheel drive, a snowmachine and a lot of time. I have lived in northern Idaho for 64 years and never seen a wolf and I spend a ton of time in the woods.

X2

My best year I harvested 17 wolves. On the other hand I have seen periods of 4-5years go by without ever seeing a track.

Back in the "old days" when ADF&G was using aerial wolf control widely, the average flying time was 6.5 hours in a Super-Cub for each wolf harvested. At today's costs that's over $2000 per wolf without figuring the salaries of the people involved

Thanks for keeping the negativity low. I was expecting a few more: "Ain't no eastern dude gonna catch our wolves." Comments. smile

This is a real program. I am on the board of directors. This group has been working with the Idaho Trappers Association to expand wolf hunting and trapping. All of Idaho is Now 11 or 12 month hunting season and most of Idaho is 6 month trapping. If you complete wolf trapping class you can harvest up to 30 wolves and yes two guys hit 20 last year. I only trap 1 or 2 each year but had a reimbursement check in my hand in less than two weeks. Great program

Would the reimbursment include all the extra equipment and new traps a person might have to purchase to trap wolves?

So lets say you spent $5000 on a 4 wheeler. Could you send that same receipt in for 5 different wolves?

Went to northern units last year. Found wolf sign instantly. Called for 4 days. Had wolves locate back but just could never catch up with them. Going back again this year for a longer period of time.

OK, PAskinner.... I'll play along.

How many wolves do you picture you yourself catching? How many wolves have you caught so far in your trapping career?

And I say that as a "recovering Eastern guy" myself.....!

One would be a good start.
Obviously I haven't caught any.
