Everyone seems surprised.This is nothing new. Just a few years ago in a Bloomington park,police chased a cougar,so it wouldn't hurt the kids there.
Also ran into evidence of cougar when trapping in the Minnesota river Valley ,just out of the metro twin cities.

we have them on trail camera ,here in the u p , all the time , our dnr said the same thing they are just moving thru

115# male is a young one (born last yr) dispersing probably.

Now they start finding males 150-200# then I might agree that their established.

The cats that are attracted to populated areas are more likely escaped or released exotics. Occasionally they're found to be over weight and even declawed. That's been the experience here in Ontario. Granted Minnesota is closer to established populations.

One killed here in a Saskatchewan city last week too.

Besides the times I mentioned in my earlier post,I had to stop my truck to avoid hitting a cougar.This was 30 years ago when trapping near Askov.
Also ran into fresh tracks of a female with kittens,while trapping beaver in northwestern MN,10 or 12 years ago. Carrying out beaver when running across fresh cougar tracks--- tends to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

How many mountain lions are there in South Dakota? Apparently all the ones we have in MO walked here from there too. Even the ones with tracking collars.

These guys need to come clean with the truth or concoct a better story. Nobody is buying it anymore.

Thats Why They've lost or trust.

Better to deny it so they are not forced to come up with a management plan or possibly run into issues like we have with Lynx.

I know that.

But their answer is ridiculous to those of us out there.

That's nonsense! The MNDNR has always maintained cougars in MN is a figment of someone's imagination if they report seeing one.

I have seen kits here on the Iron Range. In fact, some of you may remember a story in Fins & Fathers written by the DNR fur biologist out of Grand Rapids somewhere around 1980-1983. He said he did not believe reports of resident mountain lions until he saw a she-lion and cubs cross Hwy 2 in front of him by Bena.

I have yet to talk to a district wildlife biologist with the DNR who did not believe they were present in low numbers but also that they are resident. One in particular said to me that when non-woodsman say they saw one he questions it, but when a trapper that spends 100 days a year in the woods says they saw one he doesn't doubt it. "When they know a bobcat from a lynx then they dang sure know one from a mountain lion."

Personally I have seen an adult (2012) and a kit (1999). I have two other times seen tracks. in 2010 4 people called 911 to report seeing one from Hwy 169 in Mt. Iron in a 3 hr period. The first 2 reports were in the field along the grade school playground. The third was crossing the hwy at that spot and the fourth was crossing back a mile further down the road 3 hrs later.
