... I’ve shot them straight down under me a few time in a tree..... closest one on the ground about 10 yards

Insert profound nonsense here

About 5 yds.

It was getting dark so I got ready to leave.

I was in the timber right on the edge of it. In front of me was a hay field.

I took 3 steps and seen a doe walking up the fence line in the hay and coming my way.

Found a bush and got on my knees beside it.

She kept coming and stopped broadside. She spotted me but didn't know what I was. Too late.

Already at full draw I let it go.

She wheeled and ran through the hay field.

After a short search, tag was put on and the work began.

1st buck I ever shot was 2 ft off end of my arrow. Was sitting behind big cottonwood when it trotted up to tree on trail stopped and looked right at me. Was 16 then and still one of the coolest hunts ever!

So close I had to backup so the arrow could clear the bow while standing in a corn field.

Of course the one I killed with my knife was closer, but you said bow kill .

3 yards. Deer walked in between the rock I was sitting on and the one about 6 yards away. That arrow went straight thru that deer and shattered on the rock behind it. I thought I was going to have to pick shrapnel out of it from the shattered arrow.

Wild part is..... The pass-thru shot was the second shot I took at it. My first shot stuck in a sapling that I hadn't seen. I was swearing up a storm when I realized the dang thing hadn't moved. nocked another arrow and it took one step and I shot again. It took 2 steps and fell over.

My first bow kill was a 10 yard shot on a doe. It expired touching the tree I was in.

I was driving down the road when I came to a traffic jam. So got out to see what was going On. I see this 10 point buck hung up In a barb wire fence. So I go get my bow and walk up and shoot It. The crowd was In a panic and I said there was no way we could have got that deer out of the fence and not get hurt. I cut the fence and gutted the deer loaded It up and away I went.

Straight down, man that bow shot makes a thwack. Some hunters won’t take that shot. I put the arrow right between the shoulder blades on 2 different occasions, both deer didn’t go far. Was shooting thunderheads at the time

Some good stories being shared!

Five feet from the tip of the arrow.

I was sitting between the branches of an old tree that had fallen out into a field. It was covered over with long grass and I used some to hide myself.

I was watching an area of the field where the deer like to feed. A young doe walked up that close. I had to wait until she looked away to aim. She heard me move but by then it was too late for her.

Eh...wot?

Ive never shot one with a bow from the ground. Have killed a couple that were near straight down. Thats a risky shot..a little off amd its a wounded deer.

Have arrowed 2 or 3 hogs intentionally in the spine and one in the forehead....no blood trailing needed.

I have literally had to lean back as I drew so I didn't poke the deer with an arrow. Happened in a clump of maples I was hiding in when I was a kid shooting at a doe.

6 feet.
Knelt down a couple rows inside a corn field when i saw it step out on a picked bean field and started coming my direction along edge of the corn. He took his sweet a$$ time coming to me but eventually he crossed right in front of me and I shishkabobed him through the ribs. He was 6 feet from me, fun time.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I shot one during gun season pretty much right off the end of the barrel. Maybe 8 or 10 inches. Bow season 10 yards

hmm.
I know I've shot several deer at 6-10 feet
But the closest was a bear. I ain't sure my arrow left the string before contact.
And no, 5his was a non-threatening thing.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

5-6 feet. Was hunting an island in the Mississippi river in sight of the St. Louis arch. There were some cedar trees that were covered in vines. I got inside the vines and a 11 point buck walked up about 6 minutes later. He never knew I was there. One of the shortest deer hunts of my life.
