So, I hd my hips x rayed back in January because I was having pain in my left hip and groin area. It got bad enough that I went to the doctor yesterday and he advised a cortisone injection to see if I could prolong having hip replacement surgery. Got the injection this morning. Any fellow trappers dealt with this? I’m too young to feel this old!

I had the injections in one shoulder then the other and it would help, but surgery was the ultimate answer. Have a friend that had the hip replacement and he is as good as new.

I got my left hip replaced about 1.5 years ago. One of the best things I've done. If you go that route you won't regret it.

I have had both hips replaced in the last 4 years. The Rt. one was due to fall I took on the ice in February. Apparently it caused a tear in my labrum which kind of holds the hip joint together. By May I was in intense pain. Early June of that year I had the injection which lasted a couple days. Had the replacement done in September. Limped around using a cane through Fall but by Spring it was good.

The Left one went out due to limping around on my Rt. one so long. The Left one got very complicated due to me being told I had to lose 40 pounds before they would even touch me. At the time that was a very new requirement that exists pretty much all over. Lost 44 but it took so long my Left hip was pretty much mush with the ball out of the destroyed socket and I was in a wheelchair. Saw an Ortho in Mayo-Rochester and he got me in. Left the hospital the next day, pain-free.

I have no regrets about getting them done, in fact I was happy I did it. The level of pain I was in with both was incredible until I had them done, and no pain afterwards.

I think standard procedure is to start with cortisone and/or some therapy but the bottom line is new hip. You won't regret it. Some limp around for a number of years and then when pain so constant, they get a replacement and say, "Gee, I wish I had done this 3 years ago".

Groin pain goes with hip issues. Been there. New hip fixed it all.

The shots have helped my trapping partner a lot for the pain. He had one hip replaced in June and other will get replaced late November. The one thing about taking the shot is then you won't be able to have surgery for a few months. In your case you are probably hoping to be able to find a way to delay. I had my right hip replaced a year ago in July. I am doing very well.

My hips were hurting starting in my mid-late 50's. Strength/cardio exercise fixed that but it took a few years.

I have been amazed at how fast strength leaves you after 50. My sciatic situation had me laid up for a bit and I noticed other pains that popped up. They have been curbed now that I am back doing regular workouts.

My wife is experiencing the same pain right now. It's gotten so bad that I have to put her sock and shoe on her left foot. She can't raise that leg up very far at all.

I had my right hip replaced 8 years ago. After several months of strength exercises , it has been great. Left hip has never bothered me. If your pain is getting bad , get in line to get it replaced. If you get it done be sure to do the exercises, before you damage the replacement.. old243

Had a bilateral hips replaced a few years ago, I waited a long time, too long, Doc said mine were in the top ten of the worst hips he's ever seen....and he does thousands, lol
Bad hips also cause pain in the knees cause your so off. They do hips first, then knees if necessary, mine's necessary, but I keep putting it off, maybe this winter...and yes, do the therapy, in fact, do as much of the therapy exercises as you can BEFORE the surgery... I was back on the boat pulling pots in 6 weeks, my wife made me wait till the 6 weeks checkup....

Left hip went bad about 5 years ago.

I was compensating for my back/Leg pain from truck wreck in 2013 so
it eventually trashed my hip

Doc says lose 100 pounds before they can operate.

With near inability to walk, exercise is difficult.

It's going to be a long wait.

Had my right hip replaced in 2002 at the age of 50. Broke my pelvis when I was in my 20's roping a horse. My hip joint was out of line because of that and finally wore out. Replacement was the best decision I ever made.
