They will help take the chill off a room but you're not going to heat your house with one. I've got one on right now, pretty much in the center of the house, and will leave it on for a little while to take the morning chill off instead of turning on the furnace.
You can buy them for a couple hundred bucks. As for the cost to run them I really don't know, but I don't think they are all that efficient.

if they are vent free they are close to 99.9% efficient as all of the heat created by burning gas goes into the room.

I used some of the electric heaters with the little fan in them one year they used enough power that the water and light utility in my town called and wanted to just make sure we were using electric heaters and didn't have some sort of an electrical issue or I suppose a Grow operation growing pot.

buying fuel oil at $4 a gallon seemed expensive till running 2 electric heaters was every bit as expensive

if you can leave your house at say 62 and in the room you sit in have the infer-red heater on when you are in there you will feel much warmer than the 62

the infer red heaters can warm wall surfaces and such which can lead to ambient temp increase , but they are best at making people feel warm when in the light they give off

more for comfort than keeping your pipes from freezing however.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Remember those little electric milk box heaters? Those and most of the infrared fireplace type heaters both put out about 5000 BTU. They'll warm up a room but they certainly won't heat your house or keep your pipes from freezing.

Get a good air tight wood stove, Cut and dry your wood properly. Our stove has been simmering away , the last few days. Will not go out till spring. Can't beat wood heat. You get several heats from it. When you cut it, when you split it, when you burn it . old243

1 - Do you have a basement ?
2 - Can you do your own gas line work ?
3 - A 30,000 btu vent free gas heater is cheap, and when regular furnace kicks on it will dry the air of excess moisture.

We have an edenpure electric heater we run some in the mornings to take the edge off and it does ok. Like others are saying, no way will it heat the house.

We don't run our furnace until at least the first of November, just the Eden pure.

You can buy them for a couple hundred bucks. As for the cost to run them I really don't know, but I don't think they are all that efficient.

Also depends on how well insulated your house is , a few years back we had our furnace go out in the middle of winter and needed it replaced, a couple of them kept the house warm for several days of real cold weather while we waited on a replacement, our house was built in 1905 but was reinsulated with that foam insulation that is squirted through holes in the side of the house and had the windows done the next year so was well insulated and doesn’t take much to keep it comfortable

We had 3 going one in the basement in the section with all the water pipes that was closed off from the rest of the basement and 2 up stairs and it kept the upstairs a comfortable 65/70 degrees

Not sure how much it would cost to run them all winter but I would expect each one you were running to jump your bill at least 100 dollars each or more a month depending on your electric costs

We got sucked into the craze of zone heating. (what they can using them in several rooms) IF you can stay in one room and turn ALL the heat off in the rest of the house they may be economical. We got 2 and put in bedrooms on opposite ends of the house. OUR ELECTRIC bill jumped 100 bucks !!!!! good on really cold nights to heat a drafty or room that is farthest from the furnace , but not cheap to run...

Easy to figure how much it costs. 1500 watts is 1.5 kw if you are paying .15 per kw it will cost you .23 cents per hour that it is running. They are typically expensive to try to heat a considerable area with.

I know you stated electric but I installed a Mr Heater brand 30k infared ventless lp in my living room. As long as it not really cold like in the 20's I use it most of the time. Plus if I ever loose power for any length of time I still have a heat source
