Down on the Main Salmon River at mouth of the Middle Fork today. Have not seen the forest fire smoke hang in here until October before. Hopefully, heavy rain or snow coming soon to clear the air. How is the smoke situation elsewhere? Saw a few chukars today and lots of bighorns (ewes and lambs). Found a few snakes still out and about.

Interesting Jack. Are the fires out? I was just commenting to someone up here today that the air seems to have cleared?

We got a light shot of rain almost a week ago, Osky, and the smoke cleared noticeably. Now, seems to have returned in full force. I'm assuming we're getting smoke from local fires that're still going; not the long distance stuff from Oregon/California.

I just heard a bit ago that there's a fire that just started up in the Little Belt mtns in the middle fork area and they've evacuated the area it wasn't to long ago I was camping up there .
The smoke plume can be seen in Great Falls but not from here at the house.

Did you put your campfire out?

Ugh! Beartooth, that smoke looks pretty thick. Have you had it linger into October before?

Most of Idaho's fires are laying down and behaving. All of our smoke is coming out of Calif and Oregon due to the high pressure ridge and the winds rotate clockwise thus pushing all the smoke back up to our region once again. Another week of high pressure before any moisture will come in.

Chad those pictures remind me of back when I was working clearing power line right of ways during the fire at Yellowstone NP

The 3 mountain ranges around here are well hid behind the smoke today .

Great pics.

We're smoked out here too. We are catching all the smoke from the west coast, nm and Co fires. I think there's been a week total with light smoke filled air

Nice photos of the valley, Jack. Always love to see the views into a winding valley with what looks like a drop down to a great mountain view ahead.

Some smoke here again, it was clear as could be since the rains and low pressure rolled in, but since this high started , it has circled the CA fire smoke back around into the region. This time, it isn't nearly as bad .

Sure would be great to get rain off the coast all into CA to help the firefighters .
