About 15 years ago I hit my left index finger with a circular saw. Didn't loose the finger, but I damaged the nerve and blood flow to last joint. That part of my finger gets very cold in hunting season when I sit still in a deer blind. I can put the finger inside my shirt, in a glove, under my butt, blow warm air on it, and it still gets so cold it hurts. Hand warmers work, but I sure with there was a glove that would keep it warm. Fortunately, it is not my trigger finger.
Whenever my feet get cold, my finger really gets cold. I have to keep my feet warm which is a little easier than the finger. I once made a glove with one finger - not a good solution.
Anybody got a damaged digit that suffers in winter months. Some days I wish it had been severed rather that saved.

Only option is get the saw back out and try again, lol. I have same issue on both index fingers and right pinky. I wear my choppers alot when its cold enough, otherwise i just wear cotton/poly knit roping gloves.

my dad got his right middle finger table saw about 2002 mitten for your left hand while your sitting or walking doing anything you don't need finger dexterity for if you are left handed and need an exposed index finger these https://www.patriotx.com/p/108229/u...H6rGe7AIVAfCzCh1inQ3kEAQYBSABEgII8vD_BwEwhen it gets cold gloves just don't cut it , not that it gets all that cold in NC but with your injury you likely need to treat that finger like you are in WI using the other fingers to keep it warm also room for hand warmers in a mitten a muff might be a good option while sitting also https://www.amazon.com/Hunter-Safety-System-Muff-Warmer/dp/B001F0GMJW?th=1my dad told the Doc to just take it off at the knuckle he cut 3/4 of the way through, the doc told him no I can save it and you will be happy the doc fused it at the angle where it would hold a beer can perfect my dad still thinks the Doc should have just taken it off he says it is like a useless club of a finger just gets in the way and hurts every time he bangs it on some thing since it is fused solid the doc took the joint out. the doc has said you don't want to be grandpa with 9 1/2 fingers , my dad said no really that's kind of normal in the family I wouldn't be the first.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

All you need is good sharp knife and take it off in 1 clean motion like a deer leg. Leave a little tag end of skin to cover the nub. In a couple weeks your nub will be healed and you don't have to worry about a cold finger.
My grandpa cut his index finger off at the joint many years ago and has had no problems. My dad smashed a couple of his and had to get pins in one and the other cut off at the last joint. It took about 10 years for his pinned finger to recover enough to not be a PIA in the cold. I would much prefer a missing digit to a maimed one.

Lol, those n favor of removing it, know a guy that did it. My left thumb has the same problem, but I'm keeping it, luckily it doesn't seem to stay bitterly cold here for that long!

If you keep your core (torso) warm your body doesn't shut down the blood flow to the extremities. It may be counter intuitive but I'd recommend a heated vest. Military did a lot of testing on cold weather effects on finger dexterity and those results are available if you look online. Heavy gloves don't do a thing to counter your basic biological survival responses.

I would wear heat mittens, and use one of those thing football player put there hands in to keep warm. you can pull our hands our real easy. Mittens are warmer than gloves. The Army surplus store had wood mittens that fit into a outside liner, fit way up on your wrist.
