Wolfdog91, Sounds like a deal. It is a great caliber and really fits in where other calibers don't. It has a low report when shot you don't get that craaack which can be helpful at times. It is an old caliber so with a modern gun you can get some really good velocities, I use little gun at just under 12 grains and a 40 grain spire point at 2900 fps according to the Speer Reloading manual #14. At 11 to 12 grains a round it is cheap to shoot. It's also a great walking varmint gun ie not heavy. It will handle coyotes if you do you're job and keep the range in about a hundred yards in my opinion.

for 135 I would buy it

the little H&R are nice

my great grandfather thought 22 hornet was the perfect deer hunting round

he never shot one anywhere but the neck

CFE-BLK takes 22 hornet to new velocities 45gr sp to 3000fps

for 135 and an ok scope you could have nice truck gun under 200

Not fancy but I like it. Has put lots of fur on stretchers and meat in the skillet. Think I paid 75 bucks for it used quite a few years ago. Late 80's I believe. The little bolt on hammer spur is a must if you scope it. Else its too difficult to thumb the hammer under the scope. With your young eyes you may not need a scope. The iron sight works fine with the rear sight being adjustable on this one.

I’ve been shooting a bunch of coyotes with mine the last 3 years. It’s great for shots under 200. No problems unless it’s windy. 10.5 grains of 4227 40gr ballistic tip. It’s a Savage 24 22h over 20ga

Jump on that like a duck on a june bug. If you don't like it would buy it from you. You can reload a long time on a lb of powder.

Pete, How many do you need?? Didn't I sell you one like that at Mason City one year??

Agree they are a good round and cool historically. I have 2 now both bolt actions...

Wolfdog. The barrel alone can get you close to 200.00 so if you don't like the caliber either trade it or sell and replace.

Rifle was given to my dad when a family member passed away years ago. My dad just passed a couple months ago and now it's mine. When I go it will go to one of my kids. He had been offered some good money for the rifle over the years. And yes it does shoot good.

Internals look a little rough but a hour or two worth of bore scrubbing and some rem oil should get everything back nice and slick.

looks good

I think I would work up a load with the scope then I would be very tempted to try it with just irons for a while

those carry so Handi pun intended with just irons or a peep on the rear I like a nice peep sight. Williams makes a couple peeps for those

I have a savage 23D in .22 hornet. It likes 9 grains of 2400 with a the soft nosed Sierra 45 grain hornet bullet. Shot a few coyotes with it but no matter what I have shot in it there is always a 1'' hole through a coyote. I always come back to the 45 grain soft pint. It shoots the best. I took it squirrel hunting a couple weeks ago. It has an old Weaver K4 on it. Here's a picture of my rifle.

Wolf that rifle looks old enough to not have the transfer bar ignition safety but if it does don’t dry fire it as the toggle that raises the bar will break and put it out of commission. Don’t know what year they switched to that system but I have replaced several over the years. You can tell if it has that system buy holding the hammer back all the way and pressing the trigger . If a little flat piece moves up and down over the firing pin that is the transfer bar.

Had the same gun stolen out of my hotel room along with a colt SAA with ivory grips and full engraving, a while back I got a call from the police and they had my H&R that they had recovered after almost 30 years

Really wish they would find my colt though it has a lot of memories attached to it of good times with a friend who’s no longer around and both of us learning to shoot with that old pistol

Do something stupid?

Like asking a bunch of trappers and gun nuts if you should buy another gun??

If you ever find yourself in this predicament again, do what I did. I got a gun rock.

Here is how it works:

If you ever feel the urge to buy another gun, go and immediately grab your gun rock. You then walk outside with it and find a nice flat area. Preferably grassy. You then throw the rock straight up in the air. Get some good height.

If it lands on the ground, that means you should buy another gun.
