My local newspaper had an article about mink ranches in Utah that have lost millions of mink due to the mink getting covid19. Shocked i didn't see it here first(probably missed it). Anyways the article said that their still processing the furs but i wouldn't think they'd be prime now. How does everyone think this will affect wild mink prices this year? good bad or not at all

Well if this causes a shortage of ranch mink I can only assume wild fur will benefit

Pretty sure this was news several months ago. Could probably find some other threads on it that may have some info.

October F.F.G. magazine has an article "One million mink culled to protect workers at covid 19 infected European fur farms". Doesn't really say if those animals were processed or just discarded.

They have had corona virus vaccines for mink for years I believe. I don't remember it saying it was Covid 19 but I could be wrong. They vaccinate livestock in the US for corona. I doubt it will help even if all are destroted but I know they do sell summer ranched mink. The fur can be manipulated by light and diet to get them usable. LLL

Here’s what’s going on. Some mink have caught the Covid 19 from employees at these farms. Mink are susceptible to a lot of viruses and easily die from them. Once it was found out it was Covid an order was placed to cull these ranches. I believe last week over a million danish mink were killed and burned. Others in holland and Poland were also destroyed. The ones in Utah may have been pelted and put up as there is a market for summer skins.

At least it will save them from dying of embarrassment at a European Auction when they sell for $15. blush

Years ago, we had a mink ranch. We vaccinated them for viruses with Ivermectin I believe.

The anti fur farm people in Europe have used covid to wipe out fur farms there. No proof they did have covid but panicked people demanded they be killed. This I got straight from a fur farmer in the Netherlands.
Not familiar with any Utah cases but pelts in September are not worth the time to put up especially in these fur markets. If they did have covid no one would want/be allowed to handle them.

Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic mainly used to treat worms in humans and animals. There have been vaccines for Corona viruses for critters for many years.

There has NEVER been a successful Corona virus vaccine for humans after decades of trying. People have suffered chronic issues; including permanent immune system damage, life threatening exaggerated immune reactions and death; from previous human trials.

That could be right. I was pre or early teen when we did the vaccinating. I never knew what the Ivermectin was for specifically. I was more interested in girls and Little League Baseball at the time.
