Destroying the eggs. I’ve never seen or heard evidence of turkeys destroying grouse eggs. I think the obvious cause is grouse need new growth 10-40 year old forests for nesting. Across the nation, the proportion of new growth forest is declining and grouse numbers follow. Turkeys are pretty adaptable and prefer older age class forests. Maybe I’m a simpleton but there used to be a lot more grouse when there was a lot more logging.
