I heard a rumor that Trump was set to announce the wolf delisting as part of his visit to Wisconsin last week that was canceled. Anyone else hear this? Kinda stinks he would use it as a political chess piece and not announce it anyway, but at this point I don't care what it takes to make it happen as long as it happens.

I guess it doesn't seem like a chess piece if you don't know he's the one making the moves. If you don't know he was going to announce it at his rally, then didn't just because it wouldn't be as effective in garnering votes kinda feel like a kick in the shorts.

But I guess if it would've helped him pull the votes in for this swing state, I'll allow it. Wonder if it will ever happen now. What incentive does he have if he doesn't schedule another rally here?

It's tied up in the judicial branch, not the executive.

Yes and no. A judge ruled that Fish and Wildlife had to relist the wolf. Fish and wildlife is actively working to delist them again. Rumor I hear is they will be delisted again by the end of the year, also with the lynx and possibly the grizzly bear.

Is it possible Trump could delist them by executive order?

I'm afraid that if and when they are delisted our governor and his cronies will do everything they can to stop a season. Governor Walz has repeatedly said he isn't in favor of a recreational harvest of wolves.

Won't happen in Minnesota as long as wacky Waltz is in office. I believe the lieutenant governor is a member of the wolf clan,so.....not happening.

News Release

For Immediate Release:

Oct. 29, 2020

DNR extends wolf management input period
People who want to share their opinions on wolf management in Minnesota will have additional time to do so.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced today it is extending its wolf management public input period until Nov. 20. The decision follows today’s decision by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the wolf from the federal threatened species list in Minnesota.

“We have been working on an update to our wolf management plan since November of 2019, and gathering broad public input on wolf management since late September,” said Dave Olfelt, DNR Fish and Wildlife Division director. “Given today’s delisting decision, we will extend our web-based public input until Nov. 20 so people can consider the federal delisting prior to offering their input on wolf management in Minnesota. We will carefully consider all of this input as we draft revisions to our wolf management plan.”

Minnesota’s wolf management plan provides guidance on how the state manages wolves, including population monitoring, population management, depredation control, public safety and more. The DNR intends to share a draft updated wolf management plan for public review in early 2021 and will take comments on the plan itself at that time. The current plan, developed in 2001, is posted on the DNR website.

For the DNR’s statement in response to today’s federal delisting announcement, visit the DNR website.
