I could really use a boat I have 50 rounds and I am willing to add a round per HP of the outboard motor.

It still makes no sense to me that we can't buy 9mm and other formerly common ammunition, unless something sinister is going on. I could see ammunition selling out quickly after arrival in a retail outlet, whether a box store or online retailer, but it should at least arrive. I think we are likely being secretly prohibited from purchasing the means to defend ourselves.

At least the same amount, if not slightly more ammunition should still be being distributed. It appears that virtually no ammunition is being distributed

Riots sparked fears. Fears led to panic buying. Now hopefully all those panic buyers will convert into voters for the law and order POTUS.

I don't get the shortage on hand gun ammo, nobody fights a war with a hand gun...

Keith

it is arriving I bought 50 rounds of 9mm Tuesday. my LGS is rationing to one box per person.

most retailer ordered seasonally or once a month before , now they are selling a months ammo in a day when it hits the shelves.

stores get it , online retailers get it , you can get some but when the email goes out that it is in stock it is sold in 2-4 minutes from the email.

during the 22lr shortage 22lr was being made as fast as they could make it though the entire shortage of around 18 months.

supply and demand , with aprox 40 million 22lr shooters most had less than 500 rounds at any time for decades suddenly the day you realize that you can't buy what you want when you want to you need at least a thousand rounds.

40,000,000 X 1000 = 40,000,000,000 that is 40 billion rounds at the time the industry could make between about 7 million rounds a day if people actually purchased all they wanted it would have taken around 5000 days to make it all as time went on people got some and they were happy to have 250 rounds and so in about 24 months things started to get back to normal.

toilet paper is still recovering from a two week period in time in March 330,000,000 butts all need 48 extra rolls 15.8 billion rolls and unlike TP not every one was shooting yesterday, last week or last year

an estimated 5 million new gun owners a of 8/24/2020 that really represented about 5 months of sales, we could easily be at 6 million by today 10/8/2020

even if each of them only needed 250 rounds that is 1.25 billion rounds just for the new gun owners.

add in the other 400 million guns that need to be fed even if they sat for years prior

well you can see where supply just can't keep up with demand.

on the bright side you can once again say at no time in history has there ever been as many rounds of ammunition or guns in the hands of US citizens .

I don't think most are preparing for war. even though there is a cold war of Marxist ideology raging.

also 223 , 5.56 and most common rifle calibers even 30-30 are also sold out as well as most shotgun slugs , buck shot or shot larger than #6.

fortunately no one seems to think of 30-06 as a self defense caliber or everyone who did already has enough to feed their M1 or BAR

a good portion of this is fear of needing personal protection. the cities that were burning , those people who live there took notice , that no police were available that they were on their own. the police were too busy watching their squad cars and precincts burn.

this is in large people wanting a self defense piece and self defense rounds or whatever they can get to feed their tool of survival.

The .22 shortage open my eyes and mind. Call it hoarding call it preparing call it paranoid call it whatever you like but what you can't call a person with a plethora of ammo ,,is,, someone in need ammo

Remington Ammunition is also out of the picture I am told for up to 2 years you green and white box ammo for a while while the sale and move of equipment happens

perfect storm of

lost production
new market

Midway has a sale on .22 ammo every year. I buy 3 boxes whether I need them or not. That’s 1500 rounds a year, shoot maybe 250, so 1250 left. I honestly don’t know how many rounds I have, probably close to 5000+. Same with shotgun shells. Some years I get on a lot of dove shoots, some years hardly any. I know I have 8 unopened cases and 3 open cases...buy 2 cases every year.
It may sound stupid, but I limit myself to certain calibers or weapons. To me it’s easier to horde just a few types of ammo and have enough to feed multiple guns...223, .308, and 38’s & 45’s. I do have a .243 and plenty of ammo and a .280 with plenty of ammo. But the other guns I have way more than plenty. I could melt barrels on all the others going through the ammo. 38’s are scattered throughout the house for those just incase moments. 45’s are in major bedrooms. Shotguns in each bedroom along with AR’s. Hunting rifles stay in the gun cabinet. Ammo for each is also readily available for each weapon. I’d go broke trying to have enough ammo for 10 different calibers.

It will come back, just like the toilet paper did.

that does't give me much faith as you might have thought

8 months in and the TP I used to buy is limited availability and the price is nearly double

I am still buying TP with all Spanish packaging it's a good thing I don't need instructions to wipe.

There is a lot of ammo in the pipeline but the demand is several orders of magnitude higher than it has ever been. There is a local store that gets ammo in almost daily but it is sold out by the close of business that day, they said they sold 4000 rounds of 9mm in less than an hour the other day and they normally wouldn't sell 4000 rounds of 9mm in a month and they limited it to two boxes per person. With people feeling the need to stock up and the number of first time gun buyers increasing, production can't keep up with demand and it will be a long time before it is able to and depending on how the election goes, it may never catch back up.

I got a box of 9mm ammo yesterday for $13 bux for 50. Just had to buy a $600 gun to go with it. They keep ammo in the back you can get if you buy a gun.

This should get me a nice cabin on 80 acres of prime hunting land.

Part of the availablebility issue has to do with the fact that a lot of manufacturers have been shut down or partial shutdowns not to mention a lot of components come from overseas and not much has been moving from those areas for the same reason

Then add in new buyers and panic buying on the part of many and you run into real shortages

Thankfully it should be easing as more plants come back into production and components become more available
