Bear. As for the small size questions, we had a bait hunter that shot a 27 pounder a few years ago.

Shape is not right for a wolverine. Their butts are a lot more rectangular looking than that thing. Also I don't think deer would be standing down the road if that was either a bear or a wolverine.

In the first photo..where he has his right rear foot off the ground...that looks very "bearish" not the way a wolverine would move its feet. Also no tail eliminates wolverine IMO

I didn't think the shape was right for a wolverine either. I guess it's probably just a small black bear. The deer and the bear pictures were taken about 3 hours apart.
