Excellent job. Nice browning is it a Belgium? 20 ga? 1945 Remington model 11, Browning clone. 16 gauge.... I’d love to find one in 20 someday that doesn’t cost a small fortune.

That’s an awesome mixed bag! How do the spruce grouse eat? Growing up I was always told they taste like spruce pitch. Looks like there’s a bunch of wintergreen leaves and berries in that crop pic, by my best guess. The ruffs hit that hard here later in the season.

Here's a couple of pics from my camp in north-central PA. My buddy is a really good wing shot, much better than me. he got the one and only grouse double either of us ever heard about. The dog flushed two grouse out of a snow drift and Mike killed them both on the wing. I've gotten doubles on doves, woodcock and pheasants, but never grouse. In PA the limit on grouse is two. Here is a double limit.

Coos, Spruce grouse still taste good to me. Almost tastes the same as any other grouse. But it does have a hint of different flavour. Not bad or sprucey at all.
Lugnut, nice pics!

Here’s a trifecta from my neighborhood. Ruffed, sharptail and blue. We don’t have any spruce grouse close to home. About 90 percent of our ruffed grouse are the gray phase. The others are tan like the ones in Lugnut’s pictures. Right on!! Flushed 5 in two hours today but with the windy conditions they were really flighty and they were out of shooting range when taking off. Could barely hear them. Took a while for me to understand how dry the woods have gotten the last 6 weeks and headed for the wetter bottoms. Not easy to shoot in the thick cover either.
Bryce Sounds like the same as here today. Lots of wind, and pretty dry!

you hunt in runners?
Hey MB Coonguy just go to his profile and hit IGNOREThat's what he has done for all of mine.......or he does not know how to age the grouse.

My Daughter shot her first grouse today! I bought a 20 gauge shotgun for the kids since they were a little intimidated by the 12 gauge. This is its first kill! First of many, I hope!

What gun is that? It reminds me of a Ruger Red Label except for the flair on the forearm.

The barrels on that thing were put together wrong. They need to be laying next to each other so you can see them and not hiding under one another.
