To tighten the line on your spool, why not spool it out and tie a 2-3 lbs weight to the end and reel the line back in?

Well that would work if you had a hundred yards or more to lay out the line and be able to reel it in, lol.

If you use light wire hooks and tie direct to them with out any sort of leeder you will either straighten the hook or hooks when you get hung up or bring the brush to your boat. Hate retying when you break off. Much easier and faster to restraighten the light wire hooks with pliers. That power pro braid is good stuff and like most braid doesn't have memory in it that causes problems on spinning reels. Like some one said, you can cast it a country mile.

All I use in my Pflueger presidents is at least #20 power pro line. That is a fantastic line, the stuff is thin, casts smoothly even small jigs well for crappie, but really handles large bass and our average-sized muskies OK here. I never know what is going to hit a husky jerk I'm tossing so I have to be ready for anything, and that is the only line I've found that holds up cast after cast, and a wide variety of lures and species of fish. All of the below pics are fish taken from the bank, from a public lake just 2 miles from my home. As you can see...you never know what is going to hit your lure and I needed a line that could handle any size lure and any size fish (well, almost any size fish, I've snapped a few off but there has to be some compromise between tiny jigs for panfish and walleyes, and husky jerks for larger fish). So...if I had to pick just one line... grin

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

My wife has a set of small hand weights that are 2, 3 and 4 lbs. I tie the 3 lbs. one on and just go out on our little avenue and lay out about 50 yards. I fill the bottom of my spool ( mostly spinning reel spools with some 20 lbs. mono and only put on 40 to 50 yards of the braided or even my lighter weight mono. To me it does not make sense to have 2 to 3 times my typical casting distance on the spool, especially for bass and other fish where I am working more in closer quarters and with shorter casts.

where do you all get your power pro braid from? Wouldn't care to get a 500-1000 yd roll of the 15lb.

advantages to a lighter line. Better casting distance and less refusals. Disadvantage breaks easier. Go back to your 8lb, get more accuracy with your cast and catch more fish
