I mean deadly for the dude that is wearing them ! Cut a load of wood this afternoon ,fresh 2 in snow .Oh Lord I would have been ahead if I had ski's on.Them boots are for flatlanders or desert folks. Comfy and light but only for the model types on their magazine cover .

I like the pair I own. But, I guess I’m a flat lander. How steep of a hill are you cutting wood on?

And for cold, I’ve only worn mine to about 10 degrees so, you fellas who get actual cold weather, you might have different opinions.

Hahah, it's the biggest gimmick in the Northeast. Those terrible boots with the gum rubber chain tread soles. I can't believe people are dumb enough to pay $150 or more for them. They're not warm, not comfortable for long, and anything other than hardpack you're likely to fall and break something. My dad retired from the manufacturing store here and the only way I will continue to wear them is in the summer for farm chores, wood, or fishing if I can get them from the Employee Store for $5 a pair.

I used to wear them because they fit my snow shoe harness and would change into pac boots when I reached the beaver pond to set up traps. If not ,you have to wear grippers or you will wipe out sure as stepping on a banana peel.

I wear the Maine hunting shoe close to 365 days a year doing work as a Soil Conservationist for NRCS. A lot of time spent in the field surveying, laying off grassed waterways, gpsing cutovers. I have no complaints other than they're hot as heck in the summer and freeze your feet in the winter. You're hard pressed to find an American made boot at $150 a pair anymore.

I wore them for years but only in the summer. When they became a yuppie item I threw them away

I'm pretty fond of moabs. I buy them two pairs at a time. While they are dry and comfortable, they are not a winter boot.

Do yourself a favor and get a really good pair of boots that will last for many years like these. You can use them for just about anything and they really take a beating. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product...d_p=edaba0ee-c2fe-4124-9f5d-b31d6b1bfbee

I will admit they are good if you’re wearing snowshoes that’s the only reason I bought them

I’d never wear mine in the snow for traction reason, but they’re a great three season boot otherwise IMO for flat swampy country. Bean boots and a pair of chaps are my go to bird hunting set up here, light and don’t soak thru. Wear them on wilderness canoe trips as well for the same reasons.

When I lived in the northeast I’d just exchange them free if something went wrong. The only failures I’ve ever had are the stitching where the rubber meets leather. Easy fix with a speedy stitcher.

If I lived in steep rocky country they’d stay in the closet. Safe to say they weren’t intended as a work boot.

I wore the Beans in the 70's and 80's,quite a bit,Not so much in steep areas. They were a nice, quiet, bowhunting boot.Back then, they offered an insulated pac with the old style,Vibram,Montagna sole. Those were the bomb in mountainous terrain, snow etc,I still have that pair.

These days,I mostly wear Schnees pacs. One pair is uninsulated, the other is insulated with changeable liners. Both are better quality than the Beans and have solid bob soles.I find they have better traction than the old Vibram,Montagna soles.Excellent boots,in the mountains or otherwise.

If you have a pair of these Kahtoola Micro Spikes, even those Beans will go anywhere.Great on ice and I wear them a lot,in the mountains when snow is on.It doesn't matter how steep the incline. You can walk up an ice incline with ease, wearing them. And remember, you burn a lot more energy, slipping and sliding than when you have great traction.

Well I got a pair for $25 just the other day, so if they aren't perfect I can live with that. Probably just wear them on nice days before water season.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Gotta agree with White. Back when I was a kid Beans were worn by woodsmen and regular outdoorsmen. Then, along about the mid 70's things started going to crap. Every pseudo-outdoorsman, flannel and wool wearing college kid that considered himself a "woodsman" because he owned a mummy bag and once ate fish at the VFW on Friday night started owning them. Anymore LL Bean is just what White says....a yuppie store. They charge an arm and two legs for trendy trinkets that are only made to look outdoorsy. I actually paid good money some years back for a blue enamel percolator coffee pot from Bean. Dadgum thing has an honest to God PLASTIC percolator bubble!
