Does anyone have a link to a set of plans for building a wooden double door rabbit box trap from pennsylvania game commission. I'm 98% sure I know how it works but would love to have these plans that apparently in an article on trapping cotton tail rabbits. Can't seem to find it and hoping someone might now.

I built lots of wooden rabbit traps years ago.
Double door and single door.

I prefer single door. Less to go wrong.
The best is a wood box, leave the back open and cover with hardware cloth or heavy screen so the rabbit can see thru.
The door has a handle on the top middle that when open lays above the box. The trigger hitches to the handle.
The door is closed by a section of screen door spring. When set off it closes fast and the spring is strong enough to hold it closed against anything a rabbit can do.

I've caught many rabbits in box traps. Used them in town where there are lots of rabbits.

The box size doesn't really matter, as long as ts big enough for a rabbit to fit in. I'd say the height and width of the trap has to be no more than 8". The depth of the trap longer, maybe 16".

There’s a very good one on YouTube, John Wooding. He says it’s for rabbits and squirrels at start of it. The ones I have are slightly small width and it prevents most possums. I think his plans are the same. The trap is more complicated to build but I like it the best of all. You won’t have a bit of problem with it. I didn’t do the door latch part but instead drilled a hole in the top and have a nail that falls when the door does to keep it from opening.

As a kid, we made the box traps with the stick/notch thru a hole in front of the handle. The rabbit nudged the stick and the string was attached to the top of the door and door closed. We set 3/4 in the orchard and had a rabbit or 2 every day.

That’s the kind my papaw made me as a kid. Sure did like seeing that door down.

Yep I reckon that's the one theyre actually referring to then. See this is the trap that caught my attention it being a double door and all. I use basically the same trigger much in some if my smaller squirrel and frog traps just not with a treddel.



And here's their single door that's basically identical to yours


The deal is both the single and double door have the same description and I was hoping the double door had plans you could see as well.



But anyhow just really wanted some plans showing the double doors trigger because that mechanism is actually used in alot if different regional DIY cage traps (the Bernie Nelson beaver cage from WA is a prime example ) and wanted to show its actually been around for a while. Documenttaion I guess you could say.
Actually heres one if the frog traps I make with a simple trigger.

That trap looks kinda like the very first trap of any kind I ever had. I made it with my dad in the old house enclosed porch during a snow storm ...... probably 59 years ago. Only thing looks different was my trap door was fixed to swing down . We had 2 little nails in the floor corners. I used a stick to hold up the door. When a rabbit went in he knocked the stick down. The door must of been held up on his back. When he cleared the door going forward the door dropped and hung straight up and down. If the rabbit tried to back up the door could not keep swinging back because it hit the two little nails. I caught a bunch of rabbits in that trap and made a few more. Used apples, lettuce, corn, even super green and leafy alfalfa for bait. Still remember that.....Thanks Wolfie !!

I believe this is the same trap John Wooding builds step by step on YouTube. I’ve always thought rabbit boxes are the perfect way to let very young kids start trapping.

I've always made the drop door type with trigger stick in the back. But I'm kinda liking the swing door type. Thanks for the info.

I have a WCS wooden rabbit trap. I let my neighbor who has some rabbits , put it in his rabbit cages with the door tied open. 'Seasoned it' with rabbit smell and a few chew marks. I let his rabbits make it better.

Pre-seasoned. Better than a new , unscented one.
