The first book was Adjustment of Leghold Traps for Greater Profit. It had a blue cover. The then came out with a tan covered one that was an updated version. Then there was Trap Fastening, Evaluation of Lures, Baits and Urine, Mink Trapping techniques, Land Sets and Trapping Techniques, The Dirt Hole and Its Variations, The Variations of the Flat Set, Beaver and Otter Trapping Open Water, The Great Teachers, Trapping Through the Years, and On The Line With Charles Dobbins.
I had Trapping Through the Years printed after his death. He was working on that book when he passed, and it wasn't finished. I didn't add anything to it. I just had it printed as it was. Then I had On The Line printed. That one is a compilation of articles he wrote about his trapping experiences.
There are currently 11 books with Learning New Ways being number 12.

Well I spent quite a few hours sitting on a tailgate or around a campfire chatting with Charlie and he never once mentioned Paul.
HAHA! Yes that's true but all we talked about was trapping so it's okay Paul! LOL LOL, he never did talk much about family. His focus was on trapping just about all the time. I was in the military and was gone most of the time. He did come to visit at some places where I was. I think the place he enjoyed the most was Alaska, when he came up to visit for a week. I took him to the Copper River and he watched us dip out salmon. On the way there we stopped and visited with Dean Wilson. One of the last things he said before leaving Alaska was, "If I'd seen this place 40 years ago, you would have been born here." Here we are cleaning some of those Copper River reds.

I had the good fortune to meet Charles a couple times at conventions. Like mentioned above, when he talked to you, he talked to you. I also had the great fortune to attend a seminar that he taught with Neil Olson's. Excellent teacher in person. It was awesome. Also have all his DVDS and most of his books. Charles was a real nice man. No BS, no bragging, no putting others down. So often over the years I have heard other well known folks reveal their character by the way they talked about others. Charles was a first class act.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Paul or his father. I have a number of his trapping videos, however. Very instructional and entertaining.
My dad took me along with him trapping when I was very young. That was a long time ago. I lost my dad a little over a year ago. I know how Paul feels. But, I know we both will forever have lasting memories that are more precious than anything money can buy.

I was a bit in awe of Charles back when I saw him at conventions, but he was very approachable and he was always willing to offer his advice on trapping questions. I usually bought pressed salmon oil from him because I think at that time he was one of the few with the good stuff. About wore out his " land sets" book. His books were always well worth the price and then some.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.
