for my cabin. 5/4" kiln dried ash and man is it heavy. Great craftsmanship at a very reasonable price. Now to find some rustic hinges that will support the weight.

You couldn't do that yourself?

Will you coat it -NOT paint.. a low gloss clear coat that will enhance the natural grain ? Or oil ?

Beautiful door. I so love custom-building, such as doors . I always like those big black iron hinges and door handles against natural wood beauty.

Will it be on a metal slide , or regular hinges ?

Sure could if I had the tools. I bought the wood and he charged me $80.00 to plane it, joint it, biscuit it and put it all together in one flat piece. I couldn't be happier with it.

Oil finish on rustic hinges, Sharon. I'll post a pic when I put the finish to it.

Thanks, Donnie. He did a beautiful job. Seventy-five year old Amish guy missing half of one hand and his thumb bandaged on the other. Table saws.

Hear me out here....used motor oil thinned with kerosene is a great stain.

How many parts each? I assume it acts as a wood preservative as well?

great preservative. Never measured. I usually start with 5 quarts (an oil change's worth) and cut with kerosene until its as thin as I want it. Kind of depends on the application. Usually pretty thin. I would say about equal parts.

I've had some frustrating days building this cabin, it's from logs I cut myself. This would probably make it easier for me to burn the whole thing down the next time it gives me fits. I have log oil left over from preserving the logs that I intended on using on the door but your idea intrigued me. I'm going to try it. How long does it take for the odor to dissipate? Doesn't matter, I'm going to try it.

Sounds like it might be slightly inflammable? We used to mix that up on the RR for burning old tie piles back in the day.Splash a bit of that mix on the end then toss a fusee.

It does take a while. I don't know if it's time or nose blindness. Smells like a old hardware store.

Mine is also from logs I cut myself. What I would give for a team of horses.

Same for #2 heating oil. Different degrees of refining, eh?
