Those guys aren't ready for a lot of vegetables, they need animal protein (soft bugs like waxworms and small earthworms) at that age.

Good to know.

We let them loose. We started reading up on them and decided to let them go on their own.

They can take 70 to 120 days from when they are layed. I had actually given up on them. Then I saw one crawling on the ground near the nest. I dug the other one up from the nest.

That's good to see. A bunch of turtle eggs get ate by predators. They don't hide them well.

I know I'm paranoid......but am I paranoid ENOUGH???

I saw a box turtle laying eggs on a play ground in a state park several years ago. Probably will be the only time I will ever witness that. Its really neat to see them that small. Thanks for posting.

Paint there shells with fingernail polish, you will probably find them every year for many years, my great grandma painted one pink when we where kids and we found it in her garden eating lettuce every year for nearly a decade until she passed away.

Darn hyways are soooo hard on the box turtles. Can't count the times I've stopped and moved them off the road.
