A cousin of mine works in a Omaha NE hospital in ER and sent me a message saying the hospitals in Omaha are at 93 percent capacity right now due to Covid. Seems like a new wave coming through in several states hope things change in the near future.

That is not exactly true. They are at 93% right now and have been. They are worried about the opening Husker game against Ohio State. Bars have been scaled back and other freedoms infringed on in hopes for not blowing things way up. I live right across the river and our hospitals are only at 56% capacity total. LLL

Colorado has less than 375 covid patients in the hospital statewide, new regulations coming because there are "so many"!!

There's a prominent member here that works at a hospital in Omaha that may weigh in on this. I haven't heard of it myself. My niece is a NP in Lincoln.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I have heard over and over when it is your time its your time. Get 20 people to chain cement blocks to there legs on the railing of a bridge over a river and put a 45 cal. pistol in you mouth and pull the trigger, make sure it is loaded and see if all 20 just happen to have there time at the same time. What are the odds on that being. This is not the NFL. JMO

I worry more about dying from a lightning strike than I do from covid....and its has not rained here in months but plenty of people here have testing positive and recovering! lol.... covid will disappear after the election and become just another flu virus.

Multiple new cases in our community; only one hospitalization that I know of. Quarantine protocols and chain of communication for them is a joke. Most people that have tested positive report no symptoms or minor symptoms similar to a cold or a little fatigue. The hospitalization was 83 years old with some respiratory issues and he was out in 4 days and is recovering well last I heard. I know it can be hard on some people physically, but the way things are being done now with quarantines and shut downs is a lot harder for more people financially and psychologically.

That’s not necessarily true and even if it is it’s not a normal. The head of Brian hospital chain in Lincoln was just in the radio and said they run 85 percent full normally so not a lot different. Lincoln has had aroun40 Rona deaths and the average age is around 80 almost all already hospitalized with pressuring conditions.

By the way I’m in a hospital in Omaha with my youngest kid, have been in and off since May and if they are over worked you could have fooled me. Place we are in now is like a ghost town

I live in a town of 1500. Our local hospital has 2 Covid patients, with neither on respirators. In our area it seems to be impacting the young and the elderly. I believe we've had 1 death in the entire county, with the fellow having numerous underlying conditions. Not sure if it's actually worse or a case of many more being tested

Hospitals normally run at that capacity every day to turn over a profit pre rona. Around the same time UNMC released their statement the two largest hospitals in Lincoln released a statement explaining that its daily operations to run at that capacity. They all stated they had plenty of ICU beds and ventilators available if needed.

Once again the general public that doesn’t experience healthcare on a daily basis can make a mountain out of a mole hill. Little known fact some of those larger hospitals will “board” patients in their own ER’s and not let them have a bed in their hospital. All the while they continue to take transfers for admission to their facility and fill up their own beds. Why do those people that came to their hospital sit in an ER and not have a bed upstairs? Simple... money. More patients more money.

It’s not uncommon to wait for a bed on a transfer why they clean a room of someone that’s A) either died B) been discharged. That’s a daily occurrence in the large hospitals. 20-30% of their patients discharge and their goal is to fill that back up by the end of the day. That’s what pays the light bills.

Even before rona the major hospitals would hit diversion and patients would be sent elsewhere. There continues to be increasing numbers of Covid but the death rate is not increasing. As Shane pointed out 40 deaths in a county with over 300,000 inhabitants and over 8,000 positive Covid tests. You can do the math. That county is also taking the sickest of the sickest patients in Nebraska from all over the smallest hospitals that can’t take care of a sick Covid patient.

The PCR the gold standard for testing isn’t as accurate as they’d like to lead on either. I’ve seen someone test negative twice by the PCR only to have a respiratory panel that includes Covid 19 come back positive on their third test. That means there’s a lot of people that have tested negative, that had it, and aren’t being counted in the mortality statistics.

We’ve had outbreaks of it here. Continuously since May at different times. I can count the number of people on my two hands that’s have been distressed enough to be on a ventilator. The vast majority have basic viral symptoms and do well at home. Some have needed minimal supplemental oxygen and Remdesivir/Decadron for treatment for a couple days.

Here’s some numbers if you want to play around with percentages.

Thanks WadeRyan for an honest assessment, something that is hard to find these days.

My wife and I had the Rona and tested positive three Weeks ago. Hit her a bit harder than me. She is 58 and I’m 52. For me about 36 hrs of chills and fever, fatigue, loss of appetite but still tasted and smelled everything, then 3-4 days of head cold / sinus congestion. Never went to see a Dr., treated it like a common cold and 6 days later felt good and regaining strength / endurance.

I sure wouldn’t want my 85yo Dad to get this because with underlying conditions I don’t know if he would make it.

Dave
